Klein Tools

Klien tools are the tool of choice with electricians. Thats all I use. But there knives? There are to many better knives out there. Your just paying for a name. Don't waste your money. I don't think they even make there own knives. Some years back the unions were boycotting kline knives because they were made in Japan.

Klein Tools makes excellant knives. The workmanship is just superb, and although they can be a bit pricy the high quality steel is worth it. The reason they are made in Japan is becouse the Japanese are one of the best when it comes to working with steel, although the larger Klien folders are a little uncomfortable to hold.

I agree, I'm a computer geek with a construction background and all I use for screwdrivers are Kliens, don't know about their knives. Didn't even know they made them til yesterday. On a guess though I'd stick with people who have been making knives for a lot longer.

25 yrs.ago I was working as an apprentice electrician. The other workers felt so strong about their Klein pliers.I was told do'nt even show up at work if you do'nt have a pair of Klein's.Now this was 25 yrs.ago and I do'nt know if their the quality is the same or the workers still feel the same way.

If you see a Klein folder made in the USA, chances are that it was made by Utica, a respected old name in Upstate NY.

People fear what they don't know. Hazet makes better pliers, Wiha better drivers. Just like if you are a mechanic 10:1 you are using Snap-on. They aren't the best though.

I'd like to try Hazet or Wiha, but they're not as easy to find at the local stores as my good old reliable Klein tools. Ill admit I've been eyeing the Wiha linesman pliers at an on-line store, I'll probably order 'em one day just to see how good they are.

Regarding my first post...

While they're knives are good, If your going out into the wilderness its a better idea to take something a littly more hard bearing, something from Busse or Gerber for instace.

Many Wiha pliers are made for them by Heyco (you can tell because if you look at the Heyco ones they will look exactly the same), and when given the choice between Heyco and Hazet, I'd go with Hazet. Wiha makes better drivers than Hazet though.

Thanks guys
I like the look of the smaller pocket knives like the 44032 up as they look like Kershaw Easy Riders.
I was just wondering if they would be on a par with Kershaw even though I doubt it?

My snap on pliers are 40 yrs old my dad brought them 30 yrs ago abused. They only now have some play in them. My kliens all have broken springs after a few months

GBoy-
What springs are in your kleins? The only klein pliers I have used are the 9" linesman's pliers, and they're fantastic. I have a pair of knipex dikes, which are better, but boy, you're paying for it. Speedfan-Who makes better ratchets than Snap-on? They are somewhat overpriced, but you'd be hard pressed to find better tools.

Well ratchets are a totally different story, there I'd say snap-on does make the best, BUT Hazet comes very close (and IIRC is about half the price when it comes to socket sets). The only thing is, part of the problem with German tools is they don't believe in stuff like low number of degrees between each click. For them 5 degrees is considered fine tooth, and I believe 7 or 8 is standard. Other than that though I don't think the Hazets are worse in other ways than the Snap-ons, just different. Most of what gets used at the BMW and Mercedes factories (the ones not in the US at least) is Hazet, so that should tell you something.
