Mainly posted for new guys to scope out. The baby CAK seems a perfect woodsman pal, and the KLVUK to be EVERYbody's pal. Actually there are two of the latter but one will suffice for photos...Thank you, Dearest Yangdu!
The other KLVUK is already on way to sister's house for family farm chores. For new folk, the Keshar Lal Villager (finish) Utility Knife is full length peened at buttcap tang version of a high quality typical Nepali working knife from a local kami, the local versions typically a partial tang burned into handle and glued...speaking of glue, that is local laha glue on blade....the Chiruwa Ang Khola is the full length/full width tang version which meets modern internet chat definition of a "full tang" knife (and rather a confusing thing since term already meant a full length narrow tang before folk started reinventing English on the net).

What is the handle made of? Wood , Bone, unicorn ?

Nice looking blades. I do appreciate you sharing, as I'm learning as much as possible. As fast as possible.

Pappa

The actual straight length line is 10.25" for knife with a 6" blade...
What a little chopper it will be! It will outperform some similar sized Randalls for sure....but will be able to lay blade over for finer slicing cuts out front......i just received the most strange and perfect woods knife i never could have conceived....beats the pants off any similarly priced and sized knife from a domestic or import factory with cool black blades and white flashy graphic stencils of logos and skulls or whatever...10.9 oz in sheath....

Both knives are wood handle, i assume the rhododendron on the KLVUK and satisal on the BCAK.

And i am just super pleased with the KLVUK....nice and portable and nearly a WWII but lighter....great feel for a daily driver....my sis will use the bejabbers out of hers, i know....Dobe knows what i mean when we talk Gulf Coast wind damage....

Crap,. I was routing for unicorn myself but I guess Rhodedendron works good too.

My latin is rusty but believe rhododendron is latin for unicorn......or it might be greek for lali gurans, "the red one"....and just guessing the wood used...

yup, sure do. And before you know it, you'll need one of those golf bags.
Just a little inside humor. :)

I have one of the baby CAKs too. I was amaze at the miniature tank-like feel. Heavy duty in a small package. Congratulations on both. I too have given a few of the KLVUKs as gifts. I gave one to my son, and one to my son-in-law. My son burned up my chain saw by not putting in any bar oil. So I handed him a KLVUK. He thanked me, and I told him, it was far cheaper than a chain saw.

I'm thinking Greek in origin, but I'll look it up. Rh and dr suggest Greek origin. That's what 4 years of Latin will get you.

edit: rooted in Greek then to Latin. As with RH words Ph words also are Greek derivatives. Classics class dismissed.

That little CAK rocks . Now you got me needen one of those!!! Scratchin my head how did I miss that one ?? Good on ya Gunner I like your Taste in Kuks!

I think this exact knife was posted on a DOD sometime halfway recently in month or two....but i normally just order rather than DOD thing, although orders have asked if something i saw pictured was still available, but i always just tell Dear Yangdu to charge whatever the going rate...the pictured ones inquired after mainly just because i know what it looks like...

The BCAK is a great little all purpose knife up to heavy lifting uncommon to most knives its size and actually hangs shorter due to bend, and appears shorter as well...great belt knife daily driver although i could see chape going away for car/truck use or at least blounted...

My BCAK and KLVUK both live in my car, little one in the glovebox bigger in the back. Some of my favorites. I have 2 BCAKs now, one from DOD and one I got straight from Yangdu, sight unseen. Absolute best camp/outdoors knife I've ever laid hands upon, for that size bracket at least. I'm quite confident that one could survive the harshest wilderness with this knife, and maybe a fire starter, alone. If you want one, email Yangdu. There's a good chance she has one in stock

Yeah, i look at all the highly hyped "woodslore" and "bushcraft" knives and think if you just had to be lazy or stupid enough to get off of well traveled trails with only the dinkiest knife you could force yourself to carry, the BCAK would make life a LOT easier than most.

It is much more a chopper than most any i have owned of similar size and weight, and although the ready reply is "you do not need to chop, but only baton", i say such replies only valid for those who think woods floor littered with short pieces of precut straight grain wood ready for splitting....chores such as limbing for a pole or staff come immediately to mind....this is a knife which thinks outside the box for the western mind and demands exploration of uses and methods, and even calls to such....it for sure is gonna be a lot tougher than a 1095 stamped out blade, and has real belly, point, and deep edge both for splitting and finer cuts both steeply angled and straight....

But much the same adjustment of mind as if a Nepali villager was given a 10"-11" stoutly made little bowie knife....simply learning how to bring out the best in it is fun, "well looky here what it can do!"...

As for daily driver comfort and lack of hassle, the knife worn on left side for a right-handed person is as an upside down banana with sheath body pivoting end up when seated and basically it lays parallel to upper leg with chape and sheath out of way....also quite amicable to main part of sheath in a slash trouser pocket and carried as in a pukkoish manner....right handy little sucker ready to pivot out of way, actually close to top heavy, and good thing that if inverted, it is a khukuri and not something which just falls straight out without a whole lotta shaking and angling....you gotta work at it...

The formed steel bolster appears to be inlet into the tang on bottom side and then brazed to tang on both sides at top...a neat little touch since the bolster sits in a little mortise and has shallow tang shoulders front and back....brazed and laha every free edge....it is going NOwhere...

Photos of above handiness factor, seated and standing, and you can see how it begs tucked in a pocket either way, and keeping in mind this little rascal is 1/4" thick at ricasso....all around woods knife and pocket crowbar...

And a couple of others to show it is a useful knife and not just a painted black crowbar with a bevel ground on it.

You like the balancing act for the shots?...easy with a khukuri, you just pound on it with your fist until it stays....

Great pics, and the same way I carry mine, although I made a kydex sheath with a clip, for my personal taste. I'm gonna have to post pics now...

Great pix and post, thank you for sharing

I am shocked, this gentleman acquiring a knife with forge scale on it...:D...thought that was quite close to a capital sin...hehehe!
