I just invested in the KME deluxe system. It’s coming in next week. I have a couple blades that will need re-profiling.

My bank account needs to recover from that purchase, but I wanted to buy either the 50 or 100 grit stones.

Can I get away with just one stone? Which?

I've got away with the 100 for a very long time but it depends on the steel, hardness and how much you want to remove.

I never did buy the 50 as I moved back to free handing.

It's sort of a tough call as the 50 will hog off metal much faster but you'll get a lot more and deeper scratches and not have anything between it and the 300. I guess if I really had to just have one to cover a broad range I'd go with the 50. The 100 is slow on hard steels that you're trying to take off a fair amount. But I'd also have a plan to buy the 100.

Not sure how much that helped... :p

Welcome to the forum Miguel. A 50 grit stone would be good for re profiling , it will leave a deep scratch pattern to be removed as you progress to your higher grit stones.
