KME diamond or regular

I'm very seriously considering getting the kme sharpening system. Trying to decide whether to get the diamond stones or the regular ones. I know freehand is pretty much out of the question for now for me. I just have a few regular pocket knives, sheathed knifes, some kitchen knives and 8" long kitchen knives. All of these knives have not been sharpened properly in quite some time so all need a little work to say the least. For now I'm not looking for super sharp mirror finishes I just want something nice quick and easy with as little maintenance as possible. As I get better I'll spend some more time on the hobby but for now too many things going on at once.

Thanks :)

Id get the Diamond. You can do more with them. And im not a big fan of arkys anyways (personal bias).
Then I would add the choseras down the road.

I have a KME setup and I have the diamond stones.

I would say that without question they are a worthy upgrade. the amount of stock they remover vs stones is impressive.

One word of caution with them, do not exert tons of force on them. Let the stones do the work. i am able to get stupid sharp edges on the KME, make sure you work up a good burr prior to jumping off the coarse stone and over to the fine....

I have the ceramic kit and its great. I was going to get the diamonds but spoke to Ron at kME and they have their own Diamond stones being made and will last a lot longer than the DMT stones. The ceramic are good for most knives but the diamonds are where it's at for harder steels

I might hold out for the new diamond stone kit or go with the ceramic and add a course diamond with it.
Thanks for all the help so far.
I was going to go for the edge pro because of my longer knives but it seems kme kits will do the trick for a lot less money.

It will. I was recommended by a friend to get the kangaroo strop and new 4 micron emulsions. With this you can get a mirror edge. Mine should be here this week.

I got the standard stone model and added a couple 4" DMTs afterward. The standard stones work well enough for me for most things, but the diamonds (particularly the coarse) are awesome for reprofiling. Most of my knives are "lower" end stainless and simple carbon steels. The diamonds would work better for stuff with more wear resistance ("super" steels).

edit: I also highly recommend the diamond JewelStik they sell for recurves, hawkbills, etc. Works great!

Any idea when the new diamonds are coming out and how much they'll cost.
Just trying to figure out whether I should wait or just go for the regular kit and get the diamond stones later.
I like the fact of just using water on the diamonds instead of oil.

Ron said a couple weeks. He urged me to hold off. I do however think they are going to be quite a bit more expensive than the DMT's. He says they will last a VERY long time compared to the DMT's. Apparently they have been having issues with the DMT's wearing very quickly.
