Ok guys so I just got my KNE in and as I sharpen I am getting small scratches on the blade after I learned my lesson I started to up packing tape to tape of the blade.. So my question is how do I fix this problem? Thanks

My apex edge pro does this too. All I can say is make sure you clean everything really good. I suppose the scratches are coming form grit particles from the stones. I just started covering the blades with masking tape so I don't have to worry about it.

Yeah I was using masking tape but it keep coming of.. But yeah it only happens when I and using 140-300 grit stones.
So saying it's bigger chunks of metal that are scratching it? That's what I was thinking to I guess every little sharping you have to whip of the blade. You know how I can get ride of the scratches? I got some on my hinderer witch pissed me off.. Lol

The scratches are coming from the grit coming off of the stone, not metal particles. As the stones wear, the "slurry" so to speak gets on the sharpener, then you put your knife on the particles, and they scratch the blade.

Yes, you have to wipe down the blade and make sure you keep things clean.

the only way to remove the scratches is by sanding them out.....

Ahh ok now that makes 100% makes sense. So once the stones break in it won't scratch the blade?

Unfortunately, No. The nature of these stones is that they are made to wear like they do. Now, I am by no means an expert sharpener, and I know nothing of the KME system, aside from what I looked up. I am speaking only in regards to my edge pro. I assume the kme stones are the same.

Oh ok yeah when I had my wicked edge I had no problem and honestly the best sharpener just I did have the money for one this time. Thanks for the info btw

Are you using the sharpie trick and making sure to hit the apex? I'm wondering if you have your stone a little low and inadvertently catching the body of blade with your stone? That would explain why you're hitting the tape and it keep coming off too. Check the edge sharpie scratches with a loupe, it'll reveal more than just the naked eye. That's about all I can think of at the moment. I don't have a KME- went with wicked edge and never looked back since.

Check the stone whether it does not have dents on the edge. One of mine does have slight dents and if I would press too hard these could cause a light scratch.

If you are using tape and it is not stickign to the blade, you are either using a very low adhesive tape or have a dirty blade.
Slurry will appear regardless of whether the stones are broken in or not.
