Looking for advice on purchasing either the KME Sharpening System or the EdgePro Sharpening System. The EdgePro is approx $60 more whether buying the base models or getting the next step up for both systems. Is the EdgePro worth the extra money? My previous searches show that everyone that owns either the EdgePro or the KME seems to be happy with their purchase. Does anyone have experience with both systems for a fair comparison? Any help would be much appreciated. Thx.

Out of the two I'd pick the more popular device, just because it's (more) guaranteed to be supported for longer. Future-proofing your tools is always a good idea. So I would say get the Edge Pro, as it seems far more "talked about" here and elsewhere. You might also consider a WEPS, which is what I own (partly for this same reason, and partly since you can do both sides more or less simultaneously).

However, part of the allure of the KME is that it doesn't need to use special-made stones. That's a big plus in extended cost, and if budget is at all a concern, you'd probably be hard-pressed to beat it. Plus, not needing custom accessories is a big part of being future-proofed as stated above.

I don't think you can go wrong with either -- it's just a question of going more right :)

Hope this helps.

sold my edge pro, messy and could not stop blades getting scratched, even using painters tape.got the dmt aligner now, getting good results and no scratched blades.if it was cheaper to ship I would go with the weps.

I've used both and for me, it's not close. The Edge Pro has given me better results than any other system by a wide margin.

Unlike bonzodog, I haven't had problems with scratched blades.

If you go with the EP, be sure to get the stop color and the magnet. They make a difference. Also, get some means of flattening the stones.
