KME pen knife jaw clearance

I have had difficulty putting a 13° primary bevel on some narrow blades such as that of the Chaparral. There is insufficient clearance, causing the diamond stone to hit the folded segment of the jaw-holding plate. I am using the "new" low profile standard jaw. I like a secondary bevel of 15° using the Sharpmaker, so my choice of primary bevel permits this.
Would the pen knife jaw enable the low angle I like? It seems that the same clearance problem would apply.

That is good to know.
I was thinking of replacing my Edge Pro Apex with KME.
But it seems like Edge Pro is more flexible in sharpening angle.
I can definitely go below 15 DPS on Edge Pro.

It's been awhile for me but with most knives, especially Spyderco, I could easily get 15 degrees with the KME. The scale only goes to seventeen but out at the blade I would get 14-15.

I do have the pen jaws and I'm not sure you'd gain quite enough (although they are very handy for some knives).

What I've seen done is to flip the stone holder carriage over on the rail. Meaning, unscrew the phillips head screw below the plastic ball and flip it over so the screw is on top and the ball is on the bottom.

EDIT - Found a video:

On platform jigs like the Edge Pro you can go all the way down by using a sufficiently tall riser block, bringing the blade up to the level of the pivot. Or you can add something to the spine of the knife to thicken it, causing the blade to sit tilted on the blade table; this can also be used to produce different angles on each side.
