Got home today and my new KME was waiting for me. I've used a lansky for years and can get pretty good results with it, but some knifes give me trouble. So I finally decided to upgrade, and the KME seemed like the best bang for the buck of the higher end sharpeners. I did a larger kitchen knife tonight, and I'm impressed with the KME! I'm still getting used to it, but it's a slick little system. The diamond stones worked great. The course cut fast, and working down to the fine it left a nice edge. For whatever reason that was a knife that I could never get sharp with my lansky, now it's very sharp. Anxious to use it some more, and see what I can do with it. So far I give it two thumbs up!

I was an idiot and ruined my lansky stones... Maybe I'll look into this one

I shopped around for a long time and wasted a lot of money on other systems, had the DMT Aligner for a couple months and really hated it before I tried the KME. I love the KME haven't found any thing that it can't sharpen, it's my most used system. If I have a large batch of knives I need to do I'll most likely move over to the Ken Onion Worksharp with the blade grinder attachment but I really do love the KME

edit: I trashed the DMT but I really liked the DMT interrupted diamond hones so I kept them and with some minor adjustments they work well with the KME system.

I'm about to put in my order for a KME sharperner today.

Since I've decided to stick with KME's diamond stones and their kangaroo strops, I don't believe I need the "stone thickness compensator".
So I'm going to order the basic kit and add the base, an extra course diamond hone, 4 micron strop & paste, pen knife clamp, and the convexing rod.

After looking through YouTube videos of all the various systems, the KME looks at least equally effective and easy to use as the competition.
It's also less expensive than most. But the final straw was the ability to convex the edge! Most of my knives are outdoor knives with convex edges.

Plus, I can't hand sharpen worth anything. :(

I think you will be happy with it. I just made my own base out of things I had laying around here.
