Just wondering if any of you guys have had any luck contacting KME in the last week or so. I've sent emails and tried calling and left messages with no response. Today I'm getting mail box full messages on both of his numbers.

Ron of KME is a stand up guy, always willing and eager to help you with instructions or decisions on what may be a good addition to your system depending on what you want to accomplish and how much time you want to invest in sharpening. He never pushes or pressures someone to buy anything.
I've never read a negative post here about Ron, only positive. And my couple of lengthy conversations with him were both relaxed and very informative.

Gotta take a few away days every once in awhile ;)

Wasn't intending to make a negative post, just wondering why I've been unable to contact him the last couple of weeks.

Is your question regarding an order or using the system? Several of us use the system so we may be able to answer your question if it's not order related.

Thanks but no, the problem is that I'm having an issue in that the jaws don't always open as advertised and I just wanted to talk to him about that. I also had a couple of other questions dealing with using the DMT Aligner hones with the KME but I've already resolved that issue. It's nothing that can't wait.

The jaws not always opening is due to the stickiness of the rubber and nothing to worry about. I think it is a good thing as it helps to hold the blade securely in the clamp.

That's what I've found as well. Usually, if they're not opening I'll just use the blade to pop them open. It doesn't take much force at all, but if you didn't want them to stick you could probably try some baby powder or glove powder on them, it shouldn't mar the blade and it wouldn't be as slick as an oil.

I agree.

I think powder would work against achieving that tight grip on the blade that you'd want and need. I'd like to see Ron come up with a set of jaws that had more grippingness conforming better to the different blade swales along the spine.

As usual, I'm always late to the party. Issue probably already been resolved. Ron is one of the most straight forward small business guys that I have ever dealt with, but time off happens with everyone. One of the reasons I love this forum so much. If the question is put out there, usually someone will have an answer (or two) as fast as a manufacturer can respond.

I've noticed that my jaws are always a little "sticky" when I first open up after being in the case for a while. Personally I like that because I'd rather have too much grip on the blade, than too little. My technique for release is to press the release with one hand, and use the other hand to add countering side-to-side pressure on each jaw (pulling pressure with fingers on lower jaw, and pressing with thumb on upper jaw). I think the residue from my soapy water is what makes the rubber a little sticky. This usually pops the jaws free to open wide for blade placement. To me a non issue as it has always popped free for me this way.
