Wasn't intending to make a negative post, just wondering why I've been unable to contact him the last couple of weeks.Ron of KME is a stand up guy, always willing and eager to help you with instructions or decisions on what may be a good addition to your system depending on what you want to accomplish and how much time you want to invest in sharpening. He never pushes or pressures someone to buy anything.
I've never read a negative post here about Ron, only positive. And my couple of lengthy conversations with him were both relaxed and very informative.
Gotta take a few away days every once in awhile![]()

Thanks but no, the problem is that I'm having an issue in that the jaws don't always open as advertised and I just wanted to talk to him about that. I also had a couple of other questions dealing with using the DMT Aligner hones with the KME but I've already resolved that issue. It's nothing that can't wait.
The jaws not always opening is due to the stickiness of the rubber and nothing to worry about. I think it is a good thing as it helps to hold the blade securely in the clamp.

I think powder would work against achieving that tight grip on the blade that you'd want and need. I'd like to see Ron come up with a set of jaws that had more grippingness conforming better to the different blade swales along the spine. That's what I've found as well. Usually, if they're not opening I'll just use the blade to pop them open. It doesn't take much force at all, but if you didn't want them to stick you could probably try some baby powder or glove powder on them, it shouldn't mar the blade and it wouldn't be as slick as an oil.
