I recently bought a KME sharpening system and am having a little trouble with it, and would appreciate any advice. Basically, I am using it as instructed, but I find that after sharpening, the blade has many "micro abrasions" behind the edge on the center of the blade. Now, I've looked closely and it doesn't look like the sharpening stones are touching the blade behind the edge. But obviously something is causing the streaks or abrasions. I don't feel like I have using too low of a degree either. Kinda shooting for the middle for a good working edge. Any advice or thoughts? Thanks.

Yup, it's a common thing when people get a KME. It won't happen much once you break in your diamond stones a bit. When you use them the first few times some small diamond pieces that were towards the surface more can fall out and that mixed with the shavings or sludge (depending if you use them wet or dry) can scratch up your blade a little bit. I didn't experience this with mine but I've heard many people ask this same question. If you want to make sure it doesn't happen you can tape up your blade fully except for the very edge. Painters tape works real well for this because you can make bends and turns with it easy to follow the belly. Congrats on your KME though, you'll be having screaming edges and clean blades real soon!

Same thing still happens to me even after re-profiling about a dozen knives. I've tried wiping after every pass (time consuming) and I've tried soap and water. It does get better with use, but even now a loose stone or two will randomly break loose and cause a scratches 😖. As LimpCroissant LimpCroissant stated, use tape...lots of it.
