KME Sharpening system questions

I received a KME sharpening system recently. I'm very impressed with the system, but the ceramic stones that came with it have slighly different thicknesses. Even more troublesome is that the Arkansas stone is significantly thicker than the ceramics. This causes me to have to readjust the height adjustment in order to try to maintain a consistent sharpening angle every time I switch stones. This is quite a hassle, but maybe I just need to get past the learning curve.

Is this normal for those of you who have KMEs?

I just recently bought a KME too. I got the diamond stones which are all the same thickness, so there is no need to adjust. It gets my knifes razor sharp. I then hand strop them and get them scary sharp. I'm going to order the other courser diamond stones and the Kangaroo strops for it too. It's a great system. I think I saw a youtube video or a post somewhere where somebody made an adapter that bolts to the back of the holder underneath the swivel ball, that lets you change different thickness stones and maintain the same angle.

Check out "Dean O" on YouTube. He has several instructional videos that should be helpful. You can even call Ron Schwartz (not to be confused with Ken S. Not related) at KME and he'll help you with information if you're still having problems.

Thanks for the replies. I should have gone with the diamond stone kit. Overall though I'm very happy with the KME system. I like the use of the cherry wood; it is a nice touch and sets the kit apart cosmetically from others.

I use the iHandy carpenter app for my iPhone to check angles on my KME but you can also use an angle cube. Most of the time I use a sharpie if I'm not re profiling.
