Love my new KME system with so many options for stones and strops... I don't think I would have bought it though if I didn't already have the WSKO. I love both machines. They are both fully decked out (no chosera stones yet) and still came out cheaper than the Wicked Edge .

And if I knew how to post pictures, I would... lol

Just curious what you mean by, "play nice together"?

(Easiest way to post pictures is use a third party photo sharing site, then paste the link).

I'm guessing he uses the WSKO to re-bevel or do the initial stages of sharpening and finish up with the KME. Quicker time than just using the KME alone.

I'm not a big fan of the KO but I do love the blade grinder attachment. If you put the rollers close together you get less of a convex edge so going to the KME to finish up is quite easy.

To be honest I was going to post a picture of the two together mid knife.

I was sharpening Ganzo blade on the KME but I wanted to make the "shoulder" of the edge even. So I had to lower my angle, lost track of strokes and basically ended up with to bevels and an uneven edge.. It would have taken some time to clean it all back up... A quick trip to the WSKO on the belt grinder attachment and I was back on track.. Lol

Wish I could post pictures.

Cool. Just wondered... not everyone figures out how to make convex and flat grind equipment work together.

Like I said, pictures are easy... just put them on a photo sharing site (imgr, photobucket, smugmug, etc.) and share the link. :)

I don't see why so many people have this image of a convex edge being nothing but a overly fat round edge with no cutting ability. Wether I use the ko or the bga I can still run my edge over a sharpmaker and get it stupid sharp if i need to..with minimal passes. It just needs to be within the SM realm of reach. I have yet to look down a edge of a knife wirh a convex edge and see anything remotely close to what some of the pictures people have drawn around here. You will only get that level of convexness if you have a terribly sloppy belt with more slack that Jenna Jamieson :barf:

Good grief... what thread are you reading?

I was just saying in general that what is people think. Like thinking a flat grinding piece of equipment isn't gunna work with something like the ko worksharp. Not trying to offend anyone or say you are wrong by thinking that. I'm just stating it does work despite what most peoples views on a convex edge are as long as it isn't a super slack belt or alot of pressure making the edge convex. To the op glad you have ventured from conventional wisdom around here and actually went for it and got the results you were looking for.

Ah... cool. Just seemed a bit much for the thread. You're right, there's no reason why they can't work together... as long as the sharpener understands the relationship. But it can also be a detriment if they don't... even if the convex is slight.

I can tell you it sux reprofiling a knife that's been sharpened on a work sharp on a guided system...visually you wouldn't think there's much curvature to the bevel, but when turning it back to a flat bevel it's more than you'd think.

I just did 2 knives the other day that had been sharpened many times on a work sharp and it took alot of steel removal to bring it back to a v edge.

If you don't mind me asking what angle was your previous sharpening at? Seems to me the only the time I have any issues knocking the shoulders down is when it's around 40 or more inclusive. To me the more obtuse the angle the more dramatic the convex is.

They weren't my knives but the guy said he'd sharpened em on the 20° setting.

Have you noticed using your WE if it's as hard to re grind a let's say 30 inclusive or less? To me it's not nearly as long when it is a shallower angle

Man, it didn't post it in the thread... this is a janky system. Most forums let you upload directly. What am I doing wrong?
