So I'm about due for a new KME size XC or XXC stone, and while I have no problem buying direct from KME (they have been pretty good to me on replacing a stone with a big clump on it for free), they want $25 + shipping for 1. You can readily get a medium Dia-sharp by DMT for $15, and I believe that KME gets their stone from DMT, but I don't see where you can get the real coarse stones online (Amazon, DMT, anywhere?). Any ideas on getting a 1 inch wide 4 inch long & 3/16 thick real coarse diamond stone for something like 15-20 bucks?

Yeah, I been thinking on that, just not sure I wanna pay $50 for what might be $35 worth of stones

I wasn't sure that DMT made the stones for KME. With that in mind, I started looking all over the place for the extra course option direct from DMT. someone with better Google skills and me might be able to find it, but I couldn't find one anywhere. Given the great customer service that KM EEE provides, and the fact that the super course stone I want can't be found anywhere else, I don't feel that bad about paying the price they're asking. YMMV.

Slightly off-topic, I've been reprofiling the bevel on a lot of my knives. While the 140 grit stone works great, I sometimes find myself grinding for a lot longer than I want to in order to get the bevel set. I am going to order the 100 stone, and hope that it's going to save me some time. I am also considering getting a few of the waters stones just for fun.

I haven't owned a wicked edge, but I really can't see myself buying one. The KME has proven it self to be just about perfect for my needs. It's a quality product backed by a real person who Provids awesome customer service.

As far as I know, only the standard diamond stones are made by DMT, not the gold series but I could be wrong.
Oldawan sells the KME stones and has free shipping for US orders over $30

I'm in the same boat NC rock, I'm wondering if just biting the bullet and getting the 100 and 140 isn't best, I rubbed a good deal with that 140, probably set 30-40 bevels, 75% of which were pretty festive steel, lots of sprint militaries.

Anybody use the "Beast", 50 grit continuous diamond? Seems like you would just knock/rip all of the diamond out, first stroke

I have both the 50 grit and 100 grit gold series stones from KME. I feel they are well worth the $50. Have used them quite a few times and are holding up extremely well. A must have set of stones for doing re-profiling.

How does that 50 hold up, I'm pretty sure I was too heavy handed with my 140 and knocked a lot of gritt off of it

The 50 holds up well. It only requires very light pressure. It removes metal quickly. There was a loss of stones first time I used it but after that it has remained the same. Probably used it 30 times on a variety of steels and is still in perfect condition.

I have both 100 and the 50 grit. Just like Ericz says use light pressure. Just the weight of the stone and they will saw through mettle and cut a fast and even bevel quickly. Going from 140-to even the 100 grit was like the difference between a hand saw and a chain saw. I use a few drops of water when using the 100 and 50 grit. This smooths out the strokes and seems to help a lot.

If you re profile even a few knives a year I would get these stones. I use them a lot more than I thought I would. Why grind away when you can get it over with so fast? They do have a break in period like all diamond stones. Don't use any pressure and put a few knives through them and they will work amazingly fast.
