I was going to get a Grizzly knife grinder, but now think that I am going to hold out another month or so and get a KMG. I'm looking at the 6", 8" and 10" wheel packages.

My current knives are medium size with the larges overall length of 10" and a overall knife height of about 1" to 2". I am also wanting to get into folders once I refine my skills a bit.

My question: I am wanting hollow grind my blades. Am I better to start out with an 8" wheel since most of my knives blade lengths range from 3" to 6"?

Thanks!

Hey George! Yea, I've heard so many good things about the KMG I figured I'd pay a little more and get the grinder I really want.

I'm planning on using this grinder for everything from profiling to hollow grinding... OR... Should I get a cheap grinder for the bulk of profiling and save the KMG for final profiling, sanding, and hollow grinding? Or can I throw anything at it?

the KMG can take anything you want to throw at it. i use the flat platen and a work rest to profile blades. teamed up with a good motor and good belts its the best inventment in the shop. the 8" wheel will be easier to learn how to grind on because the hollow will be deeper and easier to feel when grinding.
the 10" wheel will give you less of a hollow and a higher grind line. and its actually pretty easy to learn on one of those too. go with either of those for now. you can always buy more wheels! :D :D good luck let us know how it goes

Kriag:Listen to GrassHoppa (MIKE). The KMG is built like a tank. Mike's grinds have improved alot since he got his KMG.
GrassHoppa!!! Kraig is the dude doing over my website and made the new logo. :D :D

awesome job an the web site! The KMG along with a few good teachers will have you well on your way to perecting other parts of the knife. since you'll soon master the grinding. just make sure you use new belts when grinding in the edge bevels. old belts are good for profiling and thats about it. you can also cut em up and use them for hand sanding.
