The article on my new KMG grinder is ready for public viewing. It is rather large, with lots of pics, so loading may be slow. However, it contains my impressions and thoughts on this machine, and I would suggest reading it if you are thinking of purchasing a new grinder. You can find it at: www.caffreyknives.net/articles.htm

There is also a link to the page posted on my home page at www.caffreyknives.net

Ed, great article the only thing is now
I want one more then ever. I was
surprise that the link belt produced
that kind of vibration. I always had
good luck with them.

Howdy Ed...!
Just read your article and was very impressed. I have a good friend that bought one of Rob's first grinders and it is a "tank", I have been trying to give out praise on Rob's machines ever since. Finally got to meet him at "Blade" this year and he is one nice gentlemen. I also expect to see great things from his work of machinery. I high recommend his machines and work to anyone.

Later "Possum"

Ed,
Great review.
I ordered mine this afternoon. I hadn't even thought about using the tooling off the Square Wheel. That seems to be the beauty of Rob's grinder, so much versatility.

Nice review Ed and a great machine. I really enjoyed your beautiful pictures too. Kit, you'll love the KMG. :)

well written ed, i had rob put together a 9"disk grinder. one of his rotary paltens will be on my harecore soon!

Ed thanks for a great review with useful pics. I got a lot out of seeing those views of the machine. I also realized a big drawback to my Bader, the platen will not rotate. What an obvious and useful feature. Now I know what my next grinder will be, that's for sure.

Dave

Thank you for a great review Ed! Nicely written with great photos. I especially like the detail about the modification to the bracket that holds the platen plates...such that you have some slack belt room above the lower roller if needed with interchagable plates.

Heck, I never though about using your Square wheel stuff on the KMG1....DUH (forehead slap) I guess I couldn't see the forest 'cuz the trees.

Dave, That platen will fit on the Bader III. I had one down at Bowie's Hammer-in last weekend with a Bader for Demo. I had to make a new arm to get the side-to-side offset correct....but it is the same arm used for the new rotary platens.

Guys, I sincerely appreciate the kind words and support!

Take care,
Rob

Thanks to Ed, Rob, and everyone else who shares information. I have my KMG on order with the "Caffrey Platen" and can't wait to fire iti up.

Rhino,

Did Rob actually build the grinder for you? Could you give us some details concerning motor, frame, etc?

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the well written and photographed review Ed. I like the modifications you made, and I share your desire to get things just so. Now to work on the money thing. :)

I looked this machine over at the Blade Show and boy was I impressed. I didn't get a chance to meet Rob but there is always next year. Like everyone says, this machine is built like a tank and would be my choice if I were buying a new grinder!

i bought a 1 1/4 hp g.e. motor and controller etc, and had them(surplus center) ship it to rob. that way you have all the goodies there so here can play with it till he is happy with the disk, speed, etc, that way al i had to do was mount it on the side of my bench.:)
