For those who own an origional KMG

What are the spring specifications ?

I have read the KMG Clone plans by Micheal Cleric, but I don't recall any spring info in there.

I'm looking for actual measurements of Original machines, not clones.

Length
OD
ID
Wire diameter
# of coils total length

thank you

Thanks very much Brian, I really admire the grinder builds you have accomplished.

Glad I could help.

Thanks for the compliment, I was a toolmaker in another life.
My last job in the USA was foreman at a automation engineering company.

Machine design and manufacture is what we did.

These grinders are dead simple in comparison.

I want to make a grinder. Where did you get the plans for the KMG knockoff?

I was looking at the NWG. I know a guy in manufacturing. ;)

Do yourselves a favor, and don't build the tension/tracking arm that way.
It's much too short, and is awkward to use.
Make it longer from pivot to handle.

My stock arm didn't even last a whole day.

Here's my mod to make the KMG easier to operate.

And here's the same theory, applied to my own grinder build.
The gas spring is nice too, and both easy and inexpensive.

The drawings have an error. The tracking pivot mounts, are drawn in first person veiws, and the 1.75" dim should be 1.25" Other than that it looks good. Thanks again.

I noticed that longer handle arm is popular, and planned on that right away; & will probably just add a longer arm too.

What strength is your gas spring? I think JT used 40 pound ?
