KMG on Ebay

Great....now everyone knows.

Was gonna try on this one, but the price is quickly approching retail for a brand new one. 840 is retail....

If nothing else this is a testament to the resale value of the KMG, which makes me feel good.

I didnt post it untill the price was at $710. Like you said, you can get a new one for $840 so its not much of a bargan. They do hold there value dont they?

Well this one is brand new. I wish he had used it for a year, got it all ugly and dirty, and then posted it functionally perfect but ugly and scratched....maybe I'd score a sweet deal, haha!

Im working to try to get my order in by September 1st, but I doubt its going to happen. Oh well...no sense in rushing the inevitable...

Well I think it has to do mostly with the people possibly not knowing what retail for this is. I put in a group of bids on it at what I thought it was worth to pick it up not being first owner with the warranty on it. Now its been pushed up to $710. The guy might almost get retail or it if everyone keeps jumping inwithoout looking at the retail value. Thought it would have been nic to move up from my Lee Valley sharpening attachment.

Yeah, I agree, though I can't picture anyone not knowing retail witha link to it in the ad, haha! I guess for a new machine, 50$ under retail is still 50$ under retail....

or if you lived locally, and could save 100$ on shipping or something.

I really wish I had pushed harder for that coote grinder trade you got, adam. That was a fantastic deal.....thinking now, id have pushed out some good stuff for that! haha

You would be surprised at the number of people on Ebay that don't bother to read the fine print or follow the links or perhaps the worst is to not check the sellers reputation out. If you go throught he comments on some accounts ou can just see the misunderstandings or the bad representation.

Keep in mind when considering shipping, Rob only charged me about $95.00 to ship my MKG with the small wheel attachment, flat platten, 10" contact wheel, base plate and a couple extra tool arms all the way to Cali. He seems to get a great freight rate.

Interesting to see something like a KMG on ebay. I wonder who the seller is?

Man, that anvil he's got is SWEET!

Looks like he dove head first into this but is quickly getting away from it.

Wow! This is pretty Cool!! This is the 2nd KMG that I've known of that is being resold. This is the first on Ebay....No doubt it is mine...But I have no idea who is selling it. The drive shaft still has tape on the end which holds the key in place. This machine has never been run...and looks cleaner than when I ship them!

I'm watching this with much excitement!

Rpb so is everyone else it is getting to the point where it would be better to buy it retail.

What type of warranty do you ofer and in this case is it transferable???

Abe

Man that slab saw is a good deal - retail is almost $1600. I wish I'd been saving my pennies a bit longer... :D

The KMG might have been tempting till it got so pricey. But frankly I'd rather give Rob another sale and trust his packaging than buy this one. Besides, Rob will set it up with VFD too! I am saving my pennies for that...

Abe, I'm not sure if this is a question...and I don't know how to answer...sorry..

I don't have a written warranty...I've never been that formal. I always handle these issues case-by-case. For me it is bad business to have KMG's in the field that are broken and not running so I always treat any problem with a high sense of importance. If it is a KMG....I want it to be running smooth and quite....regardless of who owns it...or where they got.

Thanks For the response actualy the second one was really the question.

Sounds like a good busines policy to me.

Went for 770. Not a bad discount off a new one if they were able to get it delivered for cheap. I almost bought it last minute but decided to play it safe and do more research and I really did not want or need the 10" contact wheel. But, it makes me feel good that in the event of a disaster and the need to sell the KMG, one could recoop a large portion of its cost. As long as I made 3 knives on it that sold, it would be all good!

Im starting my countdown but really don't think i will meet my september 1st deadline, so will end up paying the extra 10% increase. Oh well....i'd rather stick to my guns and buy it off knife proceeds. Itll give the grinder some good blade karma...

Tik Tock, you may not want, but you will need the contact wheel. Just ask anyone; it's essential. Just my 2c.

Why? Not trying to undermine, but why is it essential to have a 10" contact wheel if I always flatgrind and will have a 2" contact wheel on the upper platen for small curves.

Am I missing something?

I flat grind almost exclusively too. A contact wheel is not essential at all, I just find that profiling is much faster using the contact wheel, and when flat grinding I use the wheel to remove most of the stock before I begin to grind the flats. One thing for sure, belts last far longer on a contact wheel than they do on a platen. I have a 2" wheel also and use it for shaping handles; but when it comes to heavy stock removal there's nothing better than a big ole wheel. I sure don't feel like I could work efficiently without it. That's just my personal method, nothing more. Hope that makes some sense... ;)

Listen to Dave. He knows what he is saying. the bigger contact wheel gives you more SFPM and that is very handy when you are profiling. Dont give up on hollow grinding until you tried it, either. You might like it.
