I am thinking about getting an Edge grinder in the next few weeks and would like some opinions on whats available. I did a search here for a JL grinder and came up with nothing. Does anyone have a link to JL? I have narrowed it down to JL and Mr. Frinks edge grinder. His can now use 2x72" belts and that is very important to me.

Any suggestions or opinions would be welcome.

Thanks

Michael,

K&G sells JL products. I'm not sure if the JL horizontal grinders are still available...I've been told that John Leblanc doesn't make them anymore. This was second hand ...so I don't know for sure.

But I certainly can recomend the folks @ K&G.

Rob do you have pics of the belt extension for your edge grinder?

Sorry...no pics. I know a pic is worth a thousand words...

Imagine that you take the main base plate and add 12" to the small wheel side ...then move the small wheel fork and work rest over to the new part. It is exactly like the photos on the web site...but different (hee hee). It is just 12" longer from left to right. I'll try to get some pics the next time I have one out on the bench.

Rob, is there anyway you can rig your horizontal with the motor on top? My work bench rotates so I can't have the motor hanging down.

I have done a few searches and I have come to the conclusion that either I am too stupid to figure out any related keywords, or JL just doesn't have a site.

I was just over at Kelly Carlson's shop a couple days ago, and he has a JL. Very nice machine, I must say. Nice versatility and quickly changes from one setup to the next. I like that it has a big contact wheel for long sweeping radius grinds, but also can easily switch back to small contact wheels. It is smooth as butter, and very quiet. Very expensive. :(
