KMG order getting serious !!!

After thinking it over and over again I finally finished my list what I'm going to order from Rob.

I would really like you guys to comment on wheter there is something essential (or not so essential ;)) missing or if some of the parts I choose are not that neccesary at all or should be replaced (especially the small wheels, not that sure what size I'll need.

So here it is, my little list :

- 10" grinder package with the Caffrey platen instead of the normal one
- 2 spare tooling arms
- small wheel attachment
- 1" and 1/2" small wheels
- replacement grinding platen
- 1 extra workrest for use with the 10" wheel
- 2 single groove pulleys (one for the grinder, one for the motor) as I intent
to use my speed converter on the motor (not sure if the pulley for the
motor will fit the german motor shaft)
- 3 Drive belts (just in case one or two of them should fail in the future :))

That would be everything I would get from the US of A.
So what I would have to get here in Germany would be a 2 or 3 hp motor and something to mount the grinder and motor.

Now is anything wrong with my list, or do I have to regard something in particular concerning the pulleys, motor and other stuff that could cause problems over here in Germany?

One question that is floating around in my head for quite some time is, if everything (bolts, screws and so on) on the KMG and it's attachments can be handled with my tools, screwdrivers etc. with german measurements.
If not, that would be a pretty nice, little problem I would have to find a solution for.

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers. I really depend on you on this one, cause ordering something that I forgot will probably cost another fortune (and the KMG definitely reduces my amount of fortunes available :D) .

Regards Marcus

Congratulations, Marcus You are going to love it! I seem to use the 3/4" small wheel more. The tool sizes are- 3/4" for the platen bolts, 9/16" for the tool rest, unless Rob has changed them. I'm assuming you use metric, so pulleys will have to be metric for your motors, of course.

I don't think you really need the extra grinding platen.
Just go order a piece of the pyroceram glass platen liner and you will never need to replace your grinding platen.

Also, may I ask what exactly is the "Caffrey platen"??
Is this the "rotary platen"???
Thanks.

As I understand it, the Ed Caffery-style platen is an ordinary flat platen with two different small contact wheels as rollers (instead of the aluminum rollers Rob usually uses). This lets you do small wheel work by just adjusting the platen so that one end or the other is sticking out. B.Goode posted about it when he got his KMG.

The rotary platen is another beastie entirely.

Marcus, to answer one of your questions, you will need SAE, not metric wrenches and SAE Hex wrenches for adjusting some of the bolts and hex heads.

Thank's a lot for your answers, so I just shortly sum up what we got so far.

1. I'll order the normal pulley from Rob and the I'm going to use the lathe of a friend to get the correct sized hole in the pulley.

2. Ask Rob if he can supply me with needed US wrenches and stuff to tighten bolts and screws on the grinder.

3. Where could I obtain the pyrocream liner? Is Rob selling them too or do I have to get it somewhere else?

4. Getting figured out what sizes of small wheeles I'm probably going to use more.

Anything else I should add to my list?

Regards Marcus
