KMG question

I am to the point of calling Beaumont and ordering a KMG. 2 HP single phase w/step pulleys, platen and 8" wheel attachment. I am curious about the mounting plate. Is it necessary? It needs to be mounted solidly, but the $115 could be used to buy a small wheel attachment if I can use a thick piece of plywood for the mounting plate with satisfactory results.

Thanks for the input.

You can mount it to thick wood. It is balanced well enough that it will be smooth. I just went to the local metal salvage yard and got a piece of 1/4 steel for about $20. Then I bolted the table to the beams in the wall. Sucker is solid and smooth.

Mine has been bolted just to the table since I got it.

I got the plate - it's easier and quicker. PM me if you need measurements and dimensions of the mounting holes.

I got the plate myself with both of the KMGs i've owned, and I think it's worth it personally to get everything lined up just right, and it really makes the whole unit much more solid. When it's mounted with the plate and all together, it eliminates all the extra vibration and makes the whole machine run much smoother.

I also got the plate. As Justin said, makes things easier. If you are mechanically gifted and money is tight, go ahead and do it yourself. If you are like me and that, to save 100$, it will take you forever to get things aligned, (and even then there is no warranty I'd get it right) buy the plate.

I have sent a PM BMK for the hole locations. Thanks for the input everyone.

Another question. I have put out a email to Beaumont, but probably won't be responded to until tomorrow sometime, and being the impatient person I am, i would like to know if the switch and wiring is included on the 2HP 110/220? The website shows the two motors, then a wiring/switch kit for just the 1.5 HP motor, but nothing for the 2 HP.

Wiring is easy and you can get the stuff at Home Depot, etc. I am not sure how Beaumont supplies it. (I liked the mounting board because it holds the VFD and motor and the grinder) It would take me a few hours to make something similar I think. After my 1st knife I realized I needed the 3/4" small wheel attachment.

I am at the fire station for the remainder of the day and therefore unable to get the measurements today.

I live about 100 miles north of Columbus. I have emailed them to see if I can pick it up in person to save on shipping. Hopefully they will accommodate me.

Hey

I saw that you are from Ohio. I believe Rob is going to be coming to the ABS Hammer-In in Troy Ohio at the end of the month.

If you are going to the Hammer-In, or live close you may want to talk to Rob about picking it while he is in town. This could save you a bunch in shipping and may even pay for the mounting plate or other KMG toys.
