I was rummaging through some gear and came across my old game saw. I don't think I ever gave the brand much notice before, but saw that it is marked 'KNAPP HUNTING KIT PAT. U.S.A. & CAN.'

With the name stamp and the hollow handle I had to ask if there's a connection to you. I snapped a couple of pictures, but I should have snapped one more of the other side of the handle which shows the threaded plug for the compartment of the hollow handle.

Hi Mr. Knocks, No, there is no connection between me and the manufacturer. It's rather unfortunate. That's a pretty popular saw, although no longer made. I could have been heir to the Knapp Pack Saw fortune. :):)

Thanks for the reply!

Well shoot. I was hoping you had built it. I figured the name and hollow handle were too much of a coincidence to be otherwise! :) It has been a good saw for sure. One thing I've enjoyed about it is that the teeth can be reset with a hand setter, and resharpened on our old Acme handsaw filer. I imagine its service life will outlast MY service life, lol.

Cheers and good luck on your outing!

Thanks for the well wishes. I was going to make a joke about your penis bone being out on the table but I will wait till we know each other better :D:). To those that don't know, that's a bear penis bone on the table in the second picture to the left of the skulls.

Don't hold back on my account lol! Before I put it behind glass, my mother-in-law was out in my shop and she picked it up and asked what it was. I told her, well that's a swizzle stick, you know, for stirring your drink. She just commented 'huh.' I would have pulled off the joke, but my father-in-law looked at me and then died laughing. We both got the stink-eye but it was well worth it :D

My dad's old backpacking saw.....I have it now and have never seen another!
We spent 2 weeks every summer roughing it by an alpine trout lake.....that saw has chewed many cords of wood...

That's very cool! My wife and I are owner-operators of a saw blade repair facility (think roundsaws and carbide tooling rather than chainsaw repair), and I have seen a couple come in over the years. They certainly don't walk through the door every day!
