I have to say that severel neck knives have been sparking some interest in my mind. Can some of you guys fill me in on the dirt. What is practial and what does not fill like you are wearing a life preserver around your neck. After you buy one of these; do you wear it often or does it become one of those knifes that sits in the drawer un used ?

I have several neck knives and carry one as an EDC knife. I found that wearing it around my neck was impractical. Now I carry it sheathed in my pocket. I can pull it out and flick the sheath off with my thumb, making for a smooth one-handed drawing motion. I find them handy, but a good folder will do just as well. I often find myself carrying both.

I was carrying my spydie dragonfly in a rig, 24/7, from january to november(when I shipped it off for a new rig). inside the shirt, only coming off for a shower.

I've been carrying my crkt caron f4 since then, and tried a few ways. Didn't like the factory sheath so I got a neck rig off kit himself. I polished the beadblast off the entire knife(popped the scales off and used the dremel). I've been carrying it just about 2 weeks this time around(tuesday or wednesday is 2 weeks), and that includes showers. No rust at all. I've only done a couple days of not carrying it since I picked this sucker up.

best knife I've picked up for 45cdn. rig only set me back 15usd.

My wife has a EKI LaGriffe, and it's a great little knife. Fantastic ergonomics, great build quality. It spends much more time in her purse than around her neck. She just grabs it and has it at the ready when she is walking to her car or otherwise feeling vulnerable.

I have found that size and weight make an enormous difference in a neck knife. Most of the blades designed for this use are way too big for me to want hanging around my neck every day.

The Emerson La Griffe is an excellent choice, particularly for self-defense. I don't like the chisel grind for utility, but others seem to get along with it okay.

My favorite production necker is the Spyderco SPOT. It has slightly better ergonomics than the La Griffe and the blade is useful for a broader range of tasks.

Possibly the absolute best necker is the custom made HideAway Knife. It is the best I've seen in every major category, including ergonomics, retention, draw speed, and concealment. The various blade shape options let you pick one that suits almost any set of needs. If you can afford one you won't regret buying it!

For those people who just can't stand to wear even a small necker...try the Rob Simonich Bitteroot. The whole thing, including the sheath, doesn't weigh much more than a set of dog tags (0.7 oz) and isn't really much larger.

Bob is right, the spot has the right balance price/quality (in fact ,in that range ,it's the best) only problem for me is the steel that is bead blasted and i must keep it olied,' cause my swet make it rust in a few hours..the micarta or coated has not this small problem..
also i have a custom lagriffe and is a pleasure, but of course it costs more.. another good knife is the snody necker, and of course the bitteroot.. more classy ,a custom from AAblades , they arent expensive ,very well made, light and razor sharp.
