Knicks in one corner of my new ultra fine SM rods.

For xmas I got myself a set of UF rods and one of the corners of one rod has some knicks in it, maybe 5-6. They're hard to notice till you run a blade over them, so its hard to simply not use that corner. Anyway I'm wondering, can these cause issues with my sharpening, should I warranty it out or just use it? Is there a way to smooth it out?

My fine rods have the same nicks. I chose to use them rather than send them back and found the imperfections have no effect on the operation of the system.
I was a little concerned at first, thought it was my brand new blade that had chips in it.

One side of my rods has developed some nicks. I don't believe they affect performance though.

Ok cool, so the general consensus is its fine. Thanks guys. Is there a way to smooth it out? Even tho it's not an issue it still bothers me but not enough to send it in.

When I had a SM the UF rods had nicks as well... Didn't notice any problems occurring from them though

Nicks in mine. I think it does affect the consistentencey though. The only rods I use the corners are the mediums. I don't like the corners. I would be sure to clean and scrub your rods thoroughly. Sometimes when I feel things it is steel buildup.

I have UF rods that also have small nicks on edges. I read some place to use the edge of the other rod to file down the imperfections. I tried it but didn't notice any difference. But I didn't invest much effort in trying to remove the nicks. Maybe that would do the job for you.

Diamond very fine hone should work. Mine have small nicks in the corners as well, no issue in use so I haven't bothered..

Yep, use a diamond hone by hand to remove them, it'll take a while but that ceramic is so hard you're not going to get far with other abrasives.
