WoW - am I excited! Wild Rose just finished the sheath for the Chuck Leake 'moose knife' I made for him. He just sent me these pics! I can't wait to get it back so I can do the final buff, etch the maker mark, and put the edge on it and get it out to Chuck Leake.

WHAT A SHEATH!!! Wild Rose (Chuck) you nailed that Wooly Mammoth carving!! SUPER. Akivory should be happy with that.

The knife is ATS-34, mammoth root of tooth ivory with tusk liners, mosaic pinning and nickel silver bolsters.

Pics are here:

I better email Chuck Leake about his knife. Thanks. Roger

Roger, Shes a beauty!! Great workmanship and that handle is so awesome!. The sheath came out great too. Hot package.

Very Sweet!!! What a matched pair. Roger, another great knife. Chuck, you did a great carving there. Very nice set.

The knife was a real inspiration so I had to come up to grade.
Here's a closup of the carving (close to actual size).

That's just great Chuck, just like the sample drawing you sent that I liked so well. I am pleased. RL

Nice Roger I know the pictures are not doing it justis
Chuck nice job :D
Chuck did you get the last one I made for Pete?

Dan- if you mean that toothpick yes - should have it done by midweek. Will post as soon as done.

Jeez Dan is that some kind of back handed slap at my photography skills :D :D :D Just kidding - IMO nobody's photograph can do the "real thing " justice.

BTW remember ya'll Roger has not completely finished this knife he sent it almost done so I wouldn't mess it up while making the sheath (quite easily done when making a sheath for mirror polished blades?

Killer knife Roger!!!

Mammoth is fantastic, overall design is very nice. ETC!

Steve

PS Call me if the customer doesn't want it!

Roger that's beautiful! Man I like that mammoth tooth handle, one of my favorites ever. And you sure picked the right sheat maker for that one! Maybe when I grow up I can make a knife worth of one of Chuck's sheaths...something to live for! Well done gentlemen.

Dave

WOW! That is beautiful. Everything comes together, the blade shape,
the handle, and of course the sheath. Great work, my friend!

As always you guys are so kind to me. Chuck (Wild Rose) really nailed it hard. He had emailed me a couple drawings of the mammoth and the one I liked best is duplicated to perfection on the sheath.

When I get the package from Chuck I will take more pics after I do the final finishing on the knife. One thing not showing yet is the tusk ivory liners.

The tooth ivory is more time consuming than tusk ivory because its grain swirls instead of running straight. It didn't really chip out on me as I ground it but its just more brittle and requires slower grinding and less lengthy individual periods of grinding. Also, the colors run through the tooth ivory thickness like wood color does. Its similar that way in that you never know what you're going to get until you get there; just like highly figured wood. I love it and want more.

Thanks all and thanks Chuck for a great sheath.

Chuck no way... your pictures are great as always
as you said in hand is always best.. :)
nope not the pick the last one John Adams full engraved the blade on.

Dan haven't even heard about it - I think he's too worried he might not get it back before the Alaska(as though UPS doesn't go to Anchorage  ) move since my turnaround time is so slow right now. Either that or he's looking for some one cheaper - you know what I mean.

Wow ! That is so nice I do not know if I will want take that on my hunt this year. The neat thing about the tooth root is they are all different. You never know and I only get a few teeth each year with enough root to make a full size set of scales.
Chuck

Thanks Syl and all the rest. So many really top notch makers giving me such encouragement is good for me. Chuck doesn't need it so much since he's at the top of his hill :). I really do try patiently and realize so very well that there is so much not yet learned. It is you, my tutors right here on this very forum, that have helped give me the ability to make a knife that really works and looks like one. Couple that with a master leather smith and ya just about got something really nice for someone wanting to put it to use. I like.
