Hey folks, just thought I would post pics of my 2nd attempt at sheath making along with my #2 knife. The knife was a blade blank made from Aus 8 that I bought from Shaughnessy that also came with a pair of great desert ironwood scales. Knife was finished using mosaic pins and the handle finished with TruOil.

The sheath is made from 8/9oz veg tanned leather from Tracy @ usaknifemaker.com. Once again, using the teachings of Chuck Burrows' dvd. Dyed black using Fiebings Pro Oil dye.

This was also my first attempt at putting in wedge shaped welt spacers to accommodate for a more rounded handle profile.

Sheath turned out great, IMHO, although it's not done. Needs final edge burnishing with gum-trag and a finish coat of sno-seal or Montana pitch blend. Had a couple minor mess ups, mainly with putting the holes through 5 layers of 8/9oz leather lol, so the back didn't turn out as clean as I would have wanted. But, all in all, for a 2nd attempt, I'm highly pleased.

This is going to be my current EDC :). Enjoy! Comments and critiques welcome.

Craig,
I gotta say you did an awesome job on that....Your sheath work is great. Very nice. How do you like the smell of that ironwood? :p Larry

Thanks!

Ha, it's actually been done for a while now, just didn't have a sheath for it.

I'll tell ya, I'm not a fan of the sanding dust...burned my nose like black pepper! LOL But the smell of the wood when it's done isn't bad at all :) Smells pretty good actually when that Tru Oil was applied.

I had that blade sharpened to a 25 degree angle on my Lansky diamond set, and couldn't get it to get really sharp. I dropped it down to a 20 and man, it came alive!

Thanks! I'm hoping, after Christmas, I'll get started doing some REAL knives. Got 2 more blade blanks to do, one for an order and one for a gift, then it's on (hopefully ;) )
