Finished this a couple weeks ago but finally got some pictures. This is my 2nd effort. It's just a regular 7" santoku in 1095 with ebony/padauk handle. I did a white vinegar etch which turned out fine. It has acquired those darker marks from use.

It turned out ok but I left it too thick behind the edge and it doesn't cut as well as it should. I think I will correct it soon. It's kind of a shame, I spent forever sanding that blade! I have some finer belts for my 1x30 so I should be able to let the machine do more of the work next time around.

My brother in law was down for Thanksgiving so I taught him what I know and out popped this odd little creation. He designed this to be easier to flip over and use as a scraper on the cutting board. Having learned from my edge thickness mistake he ground it to the correct thickness and it cuts amazingly well. This is O-1 and handle is cherry and maple.

Lots of fun was had by all. I'm doing a similar mentoring workshop with a couple coworkers next weekend. It's kind of the blind leading the blind since I'm all of two blades into this hobby but better than nothing I guess.

Thanks for looking!

That ebony/padauk handle looks really great! I'm more of a fan of letting my knives patina naturally, but that vinegar etch turned out pretty good.

Thanks!

I'm on the fence about the force patina. I like the look but I might let the next one mellow and see how the natural patina looks.
