Good morning guys. I finished this knife a month or two ago... but it took me awhile to build the matching sheath and shoot some photos. I'm not exactly sure what to call it, as it's probably a bit short to be a tanto in the traditional sense... but there's really not much traditional about it... from the 550-cord wrapped, hidden-tang handle and the rivited faux-habaki to the leather sheath. I'm thinking that it might more-appropriately be called an American Kwaiken. {shrug}

Some Stats:
Length: 15-3/8"
Blade: 9-1/2" (Tip to Tsuba/Guard)
Steel: Differentially heat-treated W2, Flat-Ground
Handle: Wrapped Stabilized Amboyna Burl
Guard: Blued/Bleached mild steel (there's a thin copper faux-habaki that is rough-riveted to the blade with mild steel pins.)

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Erin.....

I noticed these pictures from the other thread and its a real stunner.....

Looking good. The styling reminds me a bit of the military gunto from the WWII era.

I like this one very much. The sweep of the profile is especially pleasing. Not liking that riveted habaki though. It's a little rough for the overall clean look of the rest and the thought of 3 holes at the base of the blade makes me uneasy.

The sheath detail is really nice as is the colouring of the whole thing.

Very nice Erin, I really like the overall shape and the blade finish looks superb!
I have to agree with Stuart on the faux habaki, it looks a little out of place with fine fit and finish of the rest of knife.
Fantastic photography as usual. :thumbup:

Thanks again guys.
Stuart and Ben... I really respect your feedback on the faux-habaki. Thanks for posting your thoughts. :thumbup:
