I finished this one a couple of weeks ago before heading out of town for a week in Golden, BC to take part in my sister's wedding. I got back yesterday, and knocked out these photos this morning. I'm calling this knife a tanto... though the materials and construction are not traditional. It has a full-tang and wrapped scales of faux ivory (from Masecraft) with brass fittings. The accent on the sheath uses the same synthetic ivory material.

Some Stats:
Length: 17-15/16"
Blade: 11-15/16" (Tip to Choil)
Steel: Differentially heat-treated 1095, Flat-Ground
Handle: Wrapped Masecraft Synthetic Ivory
Guard & Accent Plates: Brass (with mild steel pins)

Man, that's GREAT! I sure do enjoy the one I got from you my friend.... :cool:

Fantastic. You are nailing this steampunk Japanese fusion. Not sure if that's what you are going for but I really like it.

Good job, I would recommend using hishigami and also alternating the crossovers in the itomaki.
It will make the tsukamaki looks a whole lot better, and also last a whole lot longer.

The knife and sheath are stunning.

The photography and processing makes them that much more so. Really good work.

Very interesting and very cool! What's going on in the fullers?

Thanks Stuart. The fullers were milled in prior to heat treat. After tempering, I soaked the blade in vinegar over-night, then ran a small wire wheel (on a dremel) down the fuller to knock off the loose scale. This left a rough finish that I touched up with a small buffing wheel (and some green compound) on the dremel. I felt that the "un-finish" of the fuller provided a nice contrast to the polished bevels. {shrug}

Thanks for the nice words Coop. Photography seems to be hit-or-miss with me. I'm trying to figure out what pieces of the process end up having the most benefit to the final shot and develop some consistency.
