My first ironwood. Love this wood but don't like the after taste from even just hand filing it. Uukie! I think copper furnishings compliment this wood wonderfully. I have another to post in a day or two with nickel silver.

This is a 1/3 Scandi grind but the picture shows it as less because of the way the knife is tilted to get good lighting.

Thanks for looking at this one.

Pictures of other side, tang taper and specifications are here: http://riflestocks.tripod.com/pics24.html

Ron,

Guess who that knife belongs too... That's right! It's mine!! :D

Thanks for all your initial help and input a couple of months ago. It all worked out beautiful, didn't it??

Roger,

I can't wait to handle her...

Thanks again,

Danger Will Robinson!!!!
Breathing ironwood dust can cause SERIOUS health problems, including a bad form of pneumonia! - use a GOOD mask, plenty of ventilation, and clean up afterwards!!!!!

Most exotic woods can as well so please use proper precautions!!!!

Now after that - looks good and the copper definitely is a compliment.

Chuck,

I knew a year back or something like that your precaution was posted but I just could not remember for sure. I have been using a mask while grinding it. I have not while filing and hand sanding though. Thanks for the verification. I will be more cautious of it.

Very nice job Roger. I love Ironwood. Smells like burnt popcorn to me though. At least afterwards. Big mask, big fan. :D

Roger, what Chuck said. The dust can cause fungal infections of the lungs, leading to pneumonia, and worse.
I had it happen to me about 16 years ago. I was given a piece of it right after I moved here, and put it on the flat platen to see the grain. I figured that it's wood, no big deal. I was sick for the next three weeks with the lung infection, and pounding heart, etc. As I started to feel better, I ran across an article in either Blade, or Knives Illustrated about how dangerous it was, and what it could cause. That helped explain what had happened to me, as I hadn't made the connection.

Ironwood has so much natural pesticide in it, that it makes Ortho Home and Garden look like a soft drink. Nasty stuff!;)

Edited to add; Nice knife!!:D
