Stacy told me to build a half dozen of the same knife to learn better. I consider my KITH to be the first since it's pretty much the same. Here's the third one completed. It is the nicest handle I've done yet. Tests between 60-65 HRC. Please give me your opinions so I can get better. That's the reflection of a plane in the second picture, not a scratch!

Blade: CPM-S30V 1/16" thick
Handle: CA finished Pau Rosa scales, black and red liners
Edge length: 5"
OAL: 10"
400 Grit hand rubbed finish, 1/2" flat/convex grinds. Cuts great, nice and thin.
Cutting Board: flip-flopped end-grain Pau Rosa

Your finish work looks great. Overall really neat, no eyesores!

I think you need a wider piece of stock for this kind of vegi-chopper. That would allow you to adjust this design so that your knuckles don't bottom out on a cutting board. You can also use an upswept blade design to make room for knuckles, something I think always looks visually appealing.

Your pins look really good, too, no gaps. That's nice - just because you use a drill press doesn't mean they turn out that good without some attention to detail!

I think you'll eventually decide to contour your handles - just look around at styles you like and experiment.

Really good work...

BTW, if you're making that cutting board also, that's just awesome....I have no smarmy comments on that!

Actually, this blade started out as a set of steak knives but the blades were too tall to work very well. I've got a matching 8" Santoku and 9" chef that I'm working on, all with similar handles. They'll definitely have more room for the knuckles. Now that my wife has this board in her kitchen(Yes, I make all my own boards) I will keep using the same wood for the rest of her knives.

Thanks on the pins, I have a 1/4" carbide four flute end mill that is counterbored that I use for drilling. Nice, clean holes every time. No wobble from the bit.

The next partoku will be a yellowheart/purpleheart combination. Alternating strips in the board and y-p-y on one side with p-y-p on the other side of the handle. Should turn out pretty neat.
