Hey guys/gals, I'm new to this side of the knife world, but I've been into higher end kitchen knives and freehand sharpening(don't like jigs) for a few years now.

My stone progression is: Shapton Pro 220--Chosera 600--Bester--1200--Naniwa SS 5K...with DMT XXC and C plates to flatten...and the steels that I use/like the most in the kitchen are Hitachi white, blue and AS (blue super), AEB-L, SKD-11, 19c27 and mystery semi-stainless.

Back then, I Went through my collection phase buying everything in site, and my selldown phase where I probably sold off more than I now own -- and I haven't purchased a new kitchen knife in almost a year, as I'm finally content with what I have.

So about a month ago, I figured I needed to finally pick up an EDC (as I haven't had a utility knife since my SAK in cubscouts about 20 years ago)...and based on many positive recommendations, I ended up with an S30V Para2.

Opened it up and immediately put it on the stones for a new edge--I was hooked almost immediately after playing with it.

Why has it taken me so long to buy one of these?? I just wanted one quality EDC...but then my curiosity to try M390 was peaked, so I ordered a Benchmade Barrage (but figured I would throw in a ZDP Endura on the order to test its retention, as it was under $100).

After sharpening and playing around with these guys, I started to see what my preferences and likes/dislikes were in each of them -- then I ordered a few more knives (Junglas, Leek, M4 Manix, Rescue) to be more 'well rounded'...and here I am now.

Hopefully this doesn't become an addiction like with kitchen knives, but I'm starting to feel that same itch!

I really like this site and the overall vibe here...just wanted to introduce myself, and I look forward to learning more from all of you!

Dang. You sure started out right. I don't think anyone here would be anything but pleased to have a collection like that. Lots of great kitchen steel, and some fantastic EDC/field knives too.
