I'm looking for a nice fixed blade camping knife to accompany my Spyderco Para-Military2. I want it to have black G-10 handles and a satin finish, full tang and around 10 or 11 inches overall. Price range around $150 (ballpark). Kydex sheath would be nice.

All suggestions welcome.

Benchmade Nimravus (4.5 inch blade, 9.5 in. overall) or Ontario Rat-7 (6.5 inch blade, 12 in. overall) both go for around 100-110 best online source for me has been Grand Prairie Knives: http://gpknives.com

ESEE-4 0r ESEE-6. They are coated but no one will argue that that are not a great great great camping knife.

You should look into getting a Khukri machete or something. Cold Steel has one for under $30.
Swamprat Ratmandeux is also a nice option, closer to $200.

ESEE RC-4,RC-5 and the bark rivers are good choices. The custom knives that show up on the Makers For Sale section are also a good choice. If you have very specific preferences and don't mind waiting a couple months I would contact a maker and see what they can do for you. I know that after only being in the knife world for a short time that is the rout I took. Although my ESEE RC-5 has been incredible lately. My .02

I'd consider the blade geometry as well as those other specs. I own both ESEE knives and Bark Rivers. IMHO, and others, the Bark Rivers are typically ground full convex, and thinner at the edges. This is a pro and a con, depending on how you use your knives.
I see some guys wrench their knives side to side to get it unstuck. This behavior may not be advisable on some edges.
My 6 Barkies are all serious cutters, but I may take it easy on them more than say my ESEE's, or my TOPS Mountain Lion, or BK2.
There are so many great knives, but they each have their strengths and weaknesses.

Damn, that Ratmandeux kicks all sorts of butt.

Has anyone had much experience with paper micarta? How is it?

I just posted to see if came with a black G-10 option. I like it much better than Micarta. It's purty ain't it? :D
