I wondering if it is ok to bring knife along when go camping or hiking. The knife will be something like Bowie type with 6" blade.

Not carry but will be in the backpack or the like.

Please advise. Thanks.

It depends on your location, but many states have no size regulations on knives that are carried while camping or hunting.

Welcome to the forum.

There's a sticky thread with links to find knife regulations at the top of this sub-forum.

Check you state/local laws. Here in Calif for example, you can carry a folder concealed, but not a fixed blade....although a fixed blade burried inside your backpack where it is inaccesible seems to pass muster. Most places, you can get away with a lot more out in the great outdoors, than you can in populated areas.

Check your state and local laws. The state parks near me specifically state no knives with a blade over 3 inches are permitted. The state park regulations do not specify if this is concealed or open so you are left to assume that it means either/both.

That being said - I've had my RC3 and BK9 with me on a camping trip in which we were visted by a park ranger and he didn't say a word.

Thank you for the response and warm welcome. :D

My in-law is going to give me a Boker little big horn, which is a full size bowie kinfe, as a present.

I really like the knife but afraid that I'm not going to be able to bring it with me anywhere. :p

I looked through the state law but couldn't find any regulation about the knife for hiking in a park or camping (in public area).

carry any knife you want, i live in canada and am only 13 but i still carry a buck 119 with a 6 inch blade i even bring it to scout camp

You're in Deleware, aren't you? I was always under the impression that (and had seen posted in various places) that all deadly weapons were prohibited in DE state parks, which would include all knives except ordinary pocket knives under 3". I went over to handgunlaw.us to verify that I wasn't misremembering, and the spreadsheet indicated that changed (more permissive) due to an AG opinion. I couldn't find the actual AG opinion, so YMMV.
