Knife and maker Question ....

Looks good to me. I bet he has close to your price just in materials. Just put it for sale. I bet someone would take it if you dont want to keep it.

This would be better answered in another forum. I'll ring the moderator buzzer. bbbZZZZZZZZ

Although pronounced the same, I think the maker you were thinking of is Jimmy "LILE".

He passed away some years ago, though I think his wife is still running the shop.

I don't know who the maker on that knife(LYLE) is. Could be a purposeful deceit using a similar name to catch the unwary, or it could just be some guy named Jimmy Lyle..............Yeah, right!! ;)

It's not a custom, it's a custom Lile "design." After he passed away, BOSS or someone picked up the designs.

Yes your right it does have lile on the blade . But you dont think he made this knife ? Its a nice knife and I really like it . The handle material his kewl to !

Sorry, but I think you got screwed. This is a cheapo, Chinese made copy. Blade steel is something like 420J2 and those handle slabs are imitation colored pearl garbage. I would eat the shipping charges and get my money back, ASAP. In fact, I would also report this clown seller to Ebay for misrepresenting the knife as an actual custom knife made by Jimmy Lile. Nowhere in his description does it say that this junker is a factory made copy from China. :barf:

Oh my ! How can you tell its a knock off ? :( I have seen junk from china but if this is what it is its surely the best i have seen , I see plenty of grinds and inperfections for it to be mass produced .The leather case it comes in looks top of the line . Looks to be a full tang and its mirror polished threw tha handle . Please tell me how you can tell !!!!

Dude, did you read the seller's description? He listed it as a custom made knife by Jimmy Lile(even though he purposely spelled Lile wrong to mislead people). This knife is made by a foreign factory. Out of junk stainless. Might actually get sharp, since it looks like it is ground fairly thin, but I would bet money it won't hold an edge for more than a nanosecond. Those pretty(cheesy) handles are plastic. Pretty sure the knife is marked China, isn't it?

Can't see a China mark in the picture, but that is most certainly not a real Lile mark. (not one I've ever seen)

The most telling signs that this isn't a "Jimmy Lile custom". . . . the price that this seller is asking for the knife. On the secondary market, Lile customs are going for BIG bucks !

And as AT posted. . . .the stamp is yet another sign of a "knock-off."

Either the seller is a scammer. . . . .or the seller doesn't know much about knives. Well. . .at least Lile knives. ;)

I've seen a few of these pop up from time to time, mostly on Ebay and there not made in the Lile shop. I think though there is a maker out there with the same last name as Lile or it could be an import. BTW, the Lile shop is no longer in business.

:grumpy: You got ripped off! The Lile shop closed last year. An outfit in California bought the Lile name and is having replicas of his original designs made in China. They have been flooding ebay with them with a starting bid of $1. I bought a couple for $12. They have a nice appearance and the sheaths are very good, the sheath was worth the $12! haven't used them enough to know how well they will hold an edge yet.

The lesson learned here is to remember to do your homework. Asking this question before you bid would have stopped you cold. The auction process involves a lot of emotion and sometimes deception.

Disregarding what others may have paid, and the non-custom aspect, you *now* got a decent utility knife that will remind you time and time again of the folly. It's worth every penny... :p

It's a real shame to see a knifemaking legend's name ripped off like that. I have a small folder made of 154CM I bought from Jimmy at a gun show in Dallas back in 1976. It has been my edc since then and has seen a ton of use over the years. The stag scales are starting to wear a little thin but the knife opens just as smooth and locks up just as tight it did 28 years ago... And my buddies thought I was crazy back then for paying the outrageous sum of $125 bucks for a pocket knife. I'd say it was a pretty good investment. :D

This is the knife Mike Turber was importing. Same knife, sheath and handle material. He was selling them for about $30 last time he came to BFC.
