Finished knife sheath started hawk sheath. I had to use cheap 9oz leather to make a template. I tried foam and cardboard and it doesn't work for me.

Ha Ha I don`t think anything could look that bad. Looks good so far to me. That hawk would be challenging for sure. Keep us posted on the progress.

I'm going to do a WIP for the hawk but I am waiting on some rivets , i did'nt realize i only had small (1/4" post) and they are no good for 2 9oz pieces with a welt. it will be about a week or two before i get them. I'll take another look at it to see how to attack it.

My only suggestion would be... (Disclaimer.. I'm very novice as well with leather work so I'm probably the last guy who should be giving advise, but....)

When you are designing your front design where you install your line snaps to, only draw exactly half of it on your pattern so you can fold it over and it will be perfectly uniform on both sides, and so the point isn't off kilter. Here is an example I done on a Ka-Bar sheath. Please don't take this as critique as I think your work is right on track. Just a suggestion.

No issues at all but the snap is right next to the stitching and the sheild is glued on as well. If the snap was a little more centered I would have stiched the whole shield.

Grumpy, I really like your tooling on the knife sheath. Draws the eye, an interesting pattern. While the snap is off a bit, honestly the two stitches only on the sides of the shield bother me more. Was there a technical reason for that? I'd of like to seen em start and stop with the top and bottom stitching of the shield. I really like the use of the roughout strap too. Thats cool. Ya might consider trimming the tab on the strap past the snap back a little. I think with time, that much excess will curl up. Do you have a creaser? Creasing the strap, the dangler and the unsewn edges of the sheath would really add a degree of professionalism to your project. Overall a very nice job.

I was sitting here looking at your axe sheath and realized, I've never actually made an axe sheath. Awaiting details.

thanks dave , there reason for the 2 stitches on the shield is because i had sticthed the top and bottom of the shield on the top part of the sheath and once everything was done i stiched the sides. I had forgot to awl the holes througn everything so i could't get the thread through the holes that already had stitch in them. It's been really bother me too but I will know for next time. I left the snap strap a bit long since I know he does a lot of winter hunting and I figured he could still access the knife with gloves.I don't have creaser but you got my attention. what is it and what is it used for.

P.S I always appreciate your critique and suggestions.

I stacked 3 pieces of 8-9 oz leather for a welt and skived it (this is just my template I am using and building ) not the actual sheath

I wrote my name on the junk piece of template stained with ink .
I need the long rivet to go over the welt by the handle on both sides

I know I didn't V gouge the flap on the template but I did on my good piece

Man that's looking good! Tell me about the stitch on the knife sheath is that a waxed string or what it looks really good what size is it ??

Hey buddy it's just tandy's natural linen thread and I buy the blocks of bee's wax. Cut the length
Of
Stitch I need and run it through the wax. I also run my awl through the wax

Hi.

Very nice sheath. How did you secured the snap strap? In the drawings it's not clear. Is it hold only by the rivet? Did you have to cut some of the leather to make room for it?.

Thanks!

Hi.

Like the knife sheath very much! The belt loop is removable, right? With a snap button? Only suggestion I have: make the belt loop a little wider, so it's more stable when in use.

thanks yes removable for a carbiner clip for a pack or anything else and a long retaining strap for ease of access with gloves
