Controlled: I see a knife, I like a lot, but I don't feel the need to buy it because it`s great, but not enough.

Sporadic: I can live 2 - 3 years without buying a single one, all of a sudden I can get 6 in a month.

Compulsive: I just cant stand a minute not having the latest one from my favorite manufacturer. And get them as soon as they hit the market.

Impulsive: I find a beautiful knife and I buy it without any afterthoughts then possibly regret the purchase for some multiple reasons.

Acute: I don't really care the brand the make, it`s a knife I must have it.

Multi: I get multiples copies of the same model "in case" it goes out of the market.

I’ve been in different categories at different times.
Impulsive sucked. I’ve got a few lemons from that phase.
My compulsive phase came to an end when my disposable savings was eliminated.

I’ve matured, and presently I’m somewhere around semi-controlled with sporadic tendencies, but with a timeline of months, not years.

Loll :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'll put myself in the sporadic category. Not because I can really go 2-3 years without buying a new knife (to be fair, I hadn't bought a knife in over 5 years before earlier this year). But that is just how my finances roll. I think I've purchased all of the cheap-but-known-good-quality blades I think are worth having (Opinels, Svords, Aitor - all sub $20 purchases). I have been accumulating heavily in axes this year as well. I'll see how it goes. I may need to upgrade my condition from sporadic to out of control if I manage to improve my income.

Sporadic-BiMonthly: I can live 2 - 3 months without buying a single knife, and then all of a sudden I can get 6 in month.

Predictable: You make knife purchasing lists (with hundreds of manufacturers and bladesmith names with hundreds of knives) and will quit buying when you own the listed knives. Issue is that you add 10+ knives to the lists per month.

Uh-Oh: You have four or more charge cards at their limits and every month make payments on them, only to turn around and buy more knives.

SHTF: You have gotten rid of your wife, girlfriend and cats, but managed to keep the dog, all the while amassing more knives!

Compulsive. In the sense that I always feel the need to "fill a void" in my collection to make it complete. But, of course, a complete collection is something that I will never find. So, not really about the latest and greatest, but more about having the exact perfect knife for every single job on Earth. Which is absolutely ridiculous and I know that lol.

I'm solidly in the sporadic category, I can go a couple years happy with what I have, then the bug bites me and I buy several for a couple months, then repeat. My big problem is that it isn't only knives, I am also a gun junkie. Oh and backpacks. Oh and motorcycles. Oh and fishing gear. Oh and archery equipment. :D

Stopped impulse buying when I bought my 'grail' folder that was way back in 2015. I have not bought any knives since except for a fixed knife. I do check out new offerings but the urge to splurge has decreased tremendously afther that point. I do have another grail that I am after but I am just taking my time on that.

I think I fit in the compulsive category. I've narrowed down my tastes to a couple of custom makers (Nick Chuprin, Brian Nadeau, Ferrum Forge), and for the most part I get whatever knives they put out if possible. That's not to say that I don't buy anything else, but I've lost interest in a lot of the things I used to like. I like to thing I've moved on from impulsive to compulsive, and eventually I'll probably get to sporadic or controlled.

I think I am in the controlled group.
But I need to have at least two of my favorites.
And there have been knives I had to get here and there occasionally.

Sporadic and impulsive for me. Though, I don’t buy every knife I like. If I see one for a good price and it’s one I’ve wanted, I’ll jump on it without thinking too much.

I try to do some research on the models that interest me ahead of time so I usually know what I’m getting into. That helps a lot except when I see one of those special few that’s just too good to pass.

I slowed way down when I looked at all the knives I own and realized I could never use all of them in my lifetime. Now, I'm in the process of finding out what works best for me and sorting that out. It's just as much fun doing that as it was acquiring them!
