im thinking of having my father in law make a knife for a friend. I would need to suppy the blade. Where could i find a good blade around 50 to 100 bucks? any suggestions? and i think he uses the ones that have the thin butt, that kinda look like a bastard file, not the ones with the thick blade butt. thanks in advance,

There are a number of sources, but my first inclination is to point him (or you) to www.knifekits.com

You WILL find what you want and more.

i found some on ebay that "look nice" but i dunno if they are quality blades, they range from 40 to 60 bucks, damascus steel

i jsut found this site: http://www.knifeandgun.com/catalog/blades_186635_products.htm

the damascus baldes are all the way at the bottom of the page.
i was wondering if oyu guys could tell me if those are decent blades? Im thining i want to get a damascus becuase i know he likes damascus blades, i dont mind coufhing up the money for the blade, but would like to get the best deal on a decent blade , here is an example from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/10-Damascus-Bow...5167830QQihZ018QQcategoryZ42576QQcmdZViewItem

also, what is the difference between an damascus blade and a reg blade? is damascus better? or is it jsut "pretier" with its patterns?

If you search on ebay for damascus billet normally there are several blades that come up in auction. His damascus is all tool steel damascus- the first link you had nice blade nickel will not hold an edge very well-2nd link blade looks like some of the stuff that is coming out of India and unknown content. I think you could do better.Mike

after researching for a while, i finally went with a blade from damascus USA. I went ahead an bought 2 maybe my father in law will get the hint and make me one too :D

i went with the 79-M Classic modified, he will mount it on some sort of antler. looks like a nice blade.
