knife Block question-opinions

[FOG2]

I,m thinking of making a knife block and saw some that is a container with bambo skewers,plastic rods and and even pasta noodles inside. What are your opinions on these blocks and the damage they may do to knives.
I,m thinking of making the bamboo skewer filled type or the possibly the spahgetti noodle one.
Opinions? Hopefully someone has used them and can tell of their experience with them.

I would stay away from that kind of knife storage if you have nice Japanese steel. If you're just using German knives like Henkels, those should be fine.

After discussing with my GF she wants a magnetic knife rack..soooo thats what i,m gonna be making. We dont have any quality knives. She said she wants to clear up counter space so magnetic it is.
