Whether you're a custom knife maker, a first time knife owner, or a sharpening guru; at one time or another, I'm sure you've ruined a knife before.

This thread is dedicated to those knifes you've rounded the tips on with your sharpmaker, that failed attempt you made at "custom scales", that knife you've lost half the screws on but still carry it, that sebenza with the broken tip, or even that "hard use knife" that ironically couldn't handle "hard use". You guys know what I'm talking about, lets see some Knife Bloopers!!!

Heres my failed attempt at making my Leathermans blade "beyond scary sharp" (don't ask:)). The irony is that I had just restored the rounded tip on my mini-grip right before that incident happened:mad:

left: leatherman, right: mini grip

I aimed for something like 15 degree inclusive:eek: (again, don't ask:)) and I ground the tip right off with my paperwheels because I got a little carried away:rolleyes: If you look closely, its like a little tanto point:D

So what have you guys messed up? lets see some pics or hear some stories...

I promise, I won't laugh;)

I tried to do something similar when I tried to free hand sharpen my Kizer (they come from the factory with stupid obtuse edges). I thought I was at about 40° inclusive on the tip, turns out I was actually at about 20° inclusive. Now the tip is permanently screwed up. No damage to the edge, but it is aesthetically borked.

I'm pretty sure that all Kizers leave the factory like this

Hmmm, most of my edge have the potential to be bloopers. I literally just finished sharpening a SAK and I set one bevel to low. The low bevel It is about twice the width of the other bevel. Oops!

A good friend of my wife brought over some garden snips ( 2 pair ) that needed sharpening. I told her that I could knock them out while they visited. Took them to my sharpening bench, and was going to sharpen them with my WSKTS. Got to looking at them, and figured I could do a better job if I took them apart and worked on one side at a time. Got them torn down, and preceded to sharpen all four blades. Got them nice and sharp and looking good! Preceded to re assemble them, and could not for the life of me get them assembled correctly. Tried seven ways to nowhere, and just could not figure out the proper way. It was late in the day and I was tired already. ( excuses, excuses, I know! ) I was in a panic, so I told her I needed something to finish the job, and I would run up to the local Ace Hardware to get what I needed. About $12 later, I was the proud owner of a new pair of garden snips similar to the ones she had. Did not really need them, but what the heck! A man cannot admit defeat in his own house in front of his wife and her best friend. Took my new tool, and preceded to use it as a guide to put her's back together again properly.:stupid: Lesson learned, to pay attention when dismantling something for the first time, especially if it has more than 2 pieces.

Blessings,

Omar

LMAO

I've taken some drastic measures myself just to not be wrong.

Just remind me not to have you work on my car:p

"hey Omar, why are there 2 radiators laying here"

Now, I can work on your car if it is pre 1980, cause I have been there, done that several times, and have those T shirts to prove it. It is just when I haven't taken something apart and put it back together again that I run into trouble. Especially when I get "cocky", and don't pay any attention to how it is put together when I take it apart. It turned into a jigsaw puzzle for some reason. Too many parts for an old worn out brain like mine.

Blessings,

Omar
