I thought I would mention that books like Sporting Knives 2002, 2003,2004, and I believe Knives _ _ _ , too, are currently available dirt cheap. I just ordered on Amazon.com SK 2002, 2004, both originally listed at $21.95. Now they are available in NEW condition for $2.50 each.

Perhaps we could denominate one Forum or another as the homeroom for educational materials and activities. There are some great knife books. There are some crummy knife books. It wd be well to hear a forum-member's review of a how-to video, before I waste my money on it.

For that matter, I would appreciate hearing, in advance of my buying, a review of, say, materials from Sheffield's, K & G, Texas Knifemakers, Jantz,et al. Or exotic woods suppliers or steel purveyors, etc. {{{Ha. Inaugurate such a consumer's Forum, and I'm likely to mention it, just, in passing, when I'm dealing with a company rep.
(Hoping for special treatment.(!)).

No doubt a person well familiar with the BForum's activities for the recent years would argue thaat, by various means, the BladeForum HAS been attempting to provide such consumer reports, product reviews, so on. And I've no doubt that's true. My suggestion is that this cluster of interests merits its INDIVIDUAL forum, and these interests shd be part of the written description that appears under the name of the Forum.

It's just a thought. Always I'm climbing on a hobbyhorse. It probly comes from years of working in litigation: I have only two
gears: defense; attack.

---- J. D. :mad: :p**[I wd mention tt the type books I mentioned are this cheap on the USED track of Amazon.con, Barnes & Noble, etc.} {I also meant to say that books --- even if produced carefully, with high-quality materials, by world-class originators --- are something that does NOT hold its value. Q.: Does it set a bad example for knives/the knife market?}

two gears: defense; attack.

I think you missing a key one, research.

We have done book passarounds in the passaround forum, feel free to start you own. I imagine other people would be interested in the same thngs you are.

The knifemakers forum is a good place to search on supplies.

and I'm likely to mention it, just, in passing, when I'm dealing with a company rep

That kind of defeats the purpose of getting a "real" test does it not? Plus, if blatant, it sounds unethical.

I've nothing to say, really, just that Dave raises two points that require thought. A conflict of interest here must be guarded against.
{conflicts being endemic; I see from the Contents page tt BladeForums must deal with the inherent conflict with commercial interests, e.g.}
**<<***Postscript to DaveH: what I said, half in jest: I meant only "I" might try to throw his weight around with a company man, but NOT that tt "I" would be someone entrusted with reporting on Company materials & performance. THAT wd be a craven breach of fiduciary duty, clearly}. :footinmou :eek:
