Anybody care to post a few comments on their favorite knife book, one you've recently read or your opinion of a must have book for every knife nut?

Well, the Knives:Points of Interest books I - IV are a definite must have. Book V is due to be out in about six weeks as well.

Of course, Ken Warner's Knives '99, etc... annuals.

I found the Gun Digest Book of Knives to have a lot of good info on the history of the American Bladesmith Society. Good stuff...

Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values is a must for the collector.

I just picked up a set of Jim Hrisoulas books to learn more about bladesmithing - The Complete Bladesmith, The Master Bladesmith, and The Pattern-Welded Blade. I've only had time to thumb through them though. It'll take a while to read through these.

I've also got the Living On the Edge: Logos of the Loveless Legend. Some good info on how Loveless got into knifemaking and lots of pics of his work.

That's enough to keep me busy for a while.

I have to say I love Levine's book. I wish it could be updated with glossy pages and color photos (if possible). The historical perspective the book provides is great.

If you can get your hands on a copy I highly recomend "American Knives" by Harold L. Peterson. It was published back in the 50's but a great informative book touching on Bowies,Hunters, Customs (Not many makers back then compared to now)Bo Randall is mentioned also.Sometimes you will find copies which are in hard cover on e bay.

I would have to recommend "Knifecraft" by
Sid Latham. It has some really great information on how to make knives. The best part about the book is that you get to see a "legend" like George Herron go step by step
making one of his knives. That alone is worth
getting the book.

Please keep them coming. I have a special interest in out of print books that i might not already have on by search list.

For knife information, I like "AMERICAN PREMIUM GUIDE TO KNIVES AND RAZORS". I have the fourth edition, and it covers just about everything including maker's marks. For knife making info, my favorite for fixed blade and general skills developement is "STEP BY STEP KNIFE MAKING", by DAVID BOYE. I've had it for 3 years and go back to it all the time. The best folder book I have is "HOW TO MAKE FOLDING KNIVES" A Step-By-Step How-To by RON LAKE, FRANK CENTOFANTE, and WAYNE CLAY. Each of these makers show you their methods for making a particular style of lock back folder. Take care! Michael

P.S. If anyone has any knife books for sale, please email me with the title, shape, and cost.

One of the best knife books currently out there is The Working Folding Knife by Steven Dick (editor of Tactical Knives). It tells about the history, current production of, and uses of folding knives. I got my copy from Amazon.com.

I would sure like to see a book on current manufacturers (and a whole bunch of custom makers, too). I would love to learn how firms like Cold Steel, K-Bar, Marbles, Roselli, Frosts of Sweden, Spyderco (too many to list!) make their products, their design philosophies... without revealing any trade secrets, of course. Oh, and throw in sheathmakers, sharpening tools...

I have to second Eric's choice.
The Working Folding Knife.
The book made me buy knives
