Just wondering if you guys get bored of some of your knives. I like
all my knives a lot, but there are a lot of others I want to try out.
Since the budget is tight at this moment I've been thinking of selling
A LOT of them and then buying new ones that I've alwasy wanted
to try out. So far for me it's been steel in, never got to the steel
out part.

Anyone else trade it up from time to time?

I've traded and sold a lot of knives I've had. Even when I sell I most always buy some other knife with the money. Been sticking to my Spydercos and letting them pile up for nearly 2 years now, though.

I thought about doing this as well. It's still tough though. Hate to see
them go...

No knife is perfect, so if you go through each one of your collection and pick faults with all of them, I'm sure certain ones will present themselves as more ready to go.

In the past, I've grown bored of many of my knives. If I don't use them, no matter how cool they seemed at one point, they get sold or traded off. The ones I do like and end up using often don't get sold.

Of course, money from the sold ones usually ends up paying for new ones to try out, and so the cycle starts again...

I am always considering a thinning out of my collection, but never do. I just can't bring myself to sell one of my knives. Perhaps this year I will be able to take some profits.

That's exactly how I've been able to try out so many knives. It's been worth it to me. You end up losing a little if you've bought retail, but that expense is going toward giving you the ability to know what you're looking for in a knife.

yep boredom happens, cut your finger or something that always seem to help.....

j/k i have sold knives that i wish i still had,but trading is fun thatz why we are all here.......;)

i've never sold a knife, but i did sell most of my swords and only kept my custom Odin Blades sword...cant part with something as personal as my first custom that i designed. I got over swords, their is only one more I will get then I'm finished...but with knives boredom happens, then i rotate it up and store away others until I get the urge to pull em out again.

I try to trade other stuff for knives, or just buy new ones. i dont like to see them go...maybe that will change in the future

I don't have many knives, so I do get bored with them occasionaly. But After a second or two it passes.:D

you could always try out the PASSAROUND forums! that way you can try a different knife than what you have! that way you don't have to get rid of any of your knives.:) bad thing about that is a lot of times i end up finding new knives i want to get!:D

I get bored occasionally and do a round of selling. All my "hobby money" is separate from my "real" income/expenses so if I want to get a new knife, I pretty much need to sell something.

Tastes change, your needs change.

When I was new to knives, I bought a tanto. Yes, I sold it.

Last year I committed to "users only" and that has changed the dynamic a lot. Still, sometimes I'll snag something I just want to check out but have no real intention of keeping.

ETA: So far "steel in, steel out" has worked out well for me. I really thought I'd regret selling a few of them but so far I haven't. Hardest was selling a one-of-a-kind Dozier that had essentially been my grail at one point. Nice knife, but I don't regret it.

I got enough to start a pretty good "knife fund" so I can keep them coming and going.
Don't think I'm gonna buy retail as often. Used is just about as good as most ppl here
take good care of their knives.

I'm actually on the passaround list for a brass balisong, can't wait to get it!

Wish there was a knife LEASE program so you could trade it in every two months.

I usually end up about 1/2 and 1/2 with keepers and traders. Most come and go because I can't afford to continually buy all new ones. Well, I suppose I could, but then I'd end up divorced and living under a bridge fondling a pile of knives......
