I have developed this habit of saving the boxes and most of the packaging of the mass produced knives I buy. And honestly I don't understand why. Most of my collection is for display only and I use only a few of them. Most of them I won't ever sell so why do I bother keeping the damn box? Does this happen to anyone else?

I keep all of my knife boxes for a single purpose: when I die, my wife will have to spend hours, possibly days, painstakingly attempting to match each knife to its correlating box to maximize its value when she sells off my collection. I imagine she will likely go from a state of bewilderment to absolute frustration when she gets to all of the Bugout and 940 variants.

I hate boxes and packaging. eats up valuable storage space. a lot i toss on low dollar stuff or users.

for reselling, boxes and packaging is important to many buyers, for higher value.......so consider that......

If you have the space keep them.
I generally keep the knives that I do not intend to use in their box anyway, as it makes it easier to know what they are and I have no need or desire to display knives out of their boxes.

Every time I add another box to the stack I question why I keep them. I've sold a bunch of knives and the boxes didn't hurt the sales so I quess I'll keep holding on to them.

I keep plenty, toss some, purge occasionally. Between knives, watches, an a few odd other things I currently have it confined to two bankers boxes in my house now. God knows how many I have in my storage on the other side of the country, many for knives long since parted with. By this point I'm inclined to throw the majority away and save only the significant ones, but they do indeed help when selling (though I'm quick to ruin resale value anyway by customizing).

Keep if you can, it makes re-sale easier, as noted above maybe you won't sell them but it's thoughtful for the younger folks who may inherit your stuff and want to make a few bucks :)

If the box fit right and tight on the knife, I will keep it, like the SAK cardboard box. For small knife knives, If the box is bigger than the knives, I will cut off the some info label on the box, then throw the rest of the box away. For bigger knife, I will keep the box so I can store them easier and less menacing look. There are some exceptions though.
