Hey guys, first of all this is my first post and I am from Sweden so there might be a language barrier, just tell me if I have you confused. Having that said I was fascinated by a knife which I saw in the tv show 'the walking dead'. I know they use a lot of Gerber-knifes(duh, most commercial knife ever?) but this one I will need your help to identify. Anyway, I watched episode 10 from season 4 today and saw a knife that... It just got to me. In a good way. The knife is seen by 21:30 minutes in, I'll simply post you an image and hopefully someone of you will be able to recognize it. If not, I am probably gonna be able to provide you with a more high-res picture later today.

Welcome to the Forum, Swedefish! It's definitely a Gerber - hopefully someone will chime in with a model name/#.

Btw, your English is very good - so no worries there!

Cheers,

Derek...

Cool, ill. be back later with a higher Resoluted pic and maybe then we can determine model. Or I could email the manufacturer. I would just like to have a folder to accompany my http://youtu.be/mN5hkXpwJ0M which has been my life partner for six years and i really recommend it if you want to buy a Swedish knife. What's the us army standard issue knife? I don't know, it might be just the same materials as Fällkniven but in a different shape.

Gerber donated a ton of knives to the production. Rick carries a DMF Tanto. Almost all the Gerber Machetes show up in the earlier seasons. It's kind of accurate considering that the knives sold at Wal-Mart are probably the knives that you would be able to scavenge during a zombie apocalypse.

I don't know if there is really a standard issue knife for the Army anymore. My wife is in the Army Reserves and her unit (medical) issued Gerber multi-tools but not knives. They were also issued Beretta M9 sidearms on their most recent Middle East deployment, but those were locked in the base armory. I suppose it's possible that combat units are still issued specific knives, but from what I've read and heard from current and recently retired service members, that decision is either decided within each unit or troops are allowed to select a knife from an approved list. A co-worker of mine was an airman in the US Navy and was issued an Ontario pilot survival knife, but that was back during Desert Storm and he was actually part of an aircrew. Marines are still issued bayonets (also usually Ontario) unless that has changed recently, but I don't know if "classic" military knives like the Ka-Bar are really the standard for any military branches. If you want to find out if a particular knife is available for US military purchase through official procurement channels, look for the NSN number listed on the package, catalog, website, etc.

I think Fällkniven uses laminated VG-10 steel and actually makes the knives in Japan, so that's probably not going to have an equivalent in the US Army, unless guys are buying knives with VG-10 individually.

I actually have that knife, her hands must be huge cause the thing is a beast! I recognized it the minute I saw it and remembered when I bought it and couldn't believe I spent $30 on a knife, now I carry a sebenza...... I miss those times.....
