I was pretty much raised with sak's and cheapo folders, but for one year now, i really started to get into the knife thing, buying more expensive knives such as benchmaded, spydercos, crk's and striders, but i'd like to broaden my horizon! Can you hive some suggestions on less famous but good knives ?
Already know a couple like the abovr mentioned, rockstead, crkt, kershaw, sog, leatherman, microtech, emerson etc...
Thx in advance!

check out bark river, fallkniven, becker for some good fixed blades

I like cold steel too

I got caught up in that for a while, but eventually the day came when I realized that a bunch of knives in drawers, etc., that weren't being used, really weren't of value to me. So, now I try to enjoy using the ones I have instead of always looking for the next purchase that really won't satisfy me much beyond the excitement of the new purchase (or posting about on the forums). Just some food for thought. Of course, "To each his own". Now, if on the other hand you've decided to make knife collecting a real hobby, then that is something different altogether.

My favorite brands are Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw for folders. I am starting to get into fixed blades. Take a look at Ka-Bar, SOG, ESEE, Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard, Fallkniven, and Bark River. Those are good places to start.

there are many good knife companies and makers. a better starting point is picking a type/style of knife or use in mind, and going from there.

I certainly wouldn't consider these less famous, but perhaps they may be unfamiliar to you, but are indeed quality products. Just to name a couple that hasn't already been mentioned ~ Chris Reeve & Protech.

The OP mentioned "crk's" in his first post. I think he meant Chris Reeve Knives.

ESEE, Great Eastern, Northwoods, Paragon, Queen (fixed blades in particular), Canal Street Cutlery, Soque River (Japan-made models), DH Russell,

And check out the "For Sale by Makers" section at Bladeforums. If you can afford a high-end Benchmade or Spyderco, you can afford a good quality custom from Alan Davis, GL Drew, or dozens of others.
