Depends on how much you want it! I've paid retail plus shipping quite a few times for a knife that I really wanted. If it's something I don't absolutely have to have, then I try to get it for 20-25% less.

If you're talking about custom knives don't expect any discount. For factory knives it varies. Dealers selling CRK & Strider have the same prices. For knives that don't have a fixed price the general rule is the dealers get most factory knives for aprox. 1/2 the MSRP. So depending on the knife and looking around you can get anywere from 20% to 40%.

I try to support dealers who are active and helpful. As long as their price is within a couple dollars of everyone elses. However if I really want it and it is hard to find, I will pay regular prices. I'm looking for a new Bark River Huntsmans and was willing to pay whatever it was listed for on anyones site, unfortunately NO ONE has it in stock and they don't know when their getting any. In a case like this one may have to pay full list price when found. I'm not sure I'm willing to go that far.

When you say 10%, 15% off. What do you mean. 10-15 percent off list price. Most prices are already marked down that far.

I usually shop around on online to the major knife dealers before I buy and pick the best deal I find.

I don't look for a certain % off. I look for a low price from a dealer I trust.

A good place to find trustworthy dealers is in the exchange section. Check the Good, Bad and Ugly Forum.

Good advise, I do the same thing.
