You guys may remember the threads "A few of mine" and "A question of price" by Knifemaker87. He showed us a few knives he made, and provided some description. Well, Chris allowed me the opportunity to purchase one of his blades (third one down in the first thread, first one in the second thread).
It arrived the other day, quite a bit sooner than I expected. It is swell to look at. The handle is a gorgeous piece of wood (what kind is it, Chris?), and the blade is nicely forged (and must be well-tempered: read on).
This is a really nice piece. The blade holds an excellent edge. I took it out into the woods with me when I went for a hike yesterday, and it performed beautifully. I made a couple of fuzz sticks, cleared soe brush and small limbs from the trail, and cut a bough to make a hiking stick. After this work, the blade still maintains an above-average working edge.
It's perfectly balanced. The balance point is at exactly half of the length 11" overall). And, since the handle is about 4.25" in length, when using the knife the balance is forward.
Will post more later.
Thanks, Chris!
