I have always carried a pocket knife and wore a Buck 110 or 112 as a work tool for a number of years. (My Grandpappy told me not to trust a man who doesn't carry a knife.) Never have I had a real need to resort to drawing any weapon other than a quick apology or a well-timed bluff. A couple of times I did display my Buck to diffuse a situation. Once open once not. The few times I was actually incited to react in a less than civil manner, things wrapped up well before weapons were considered or before I considered my knife as a weapon.
I have always carried larger fixed blade 'hunting' knives in outdoors situations such as camping, hiking or doing archaeological site survey. I just feel better with substantial steel at my side. Since I may do this on the spur of the moment, my favorite blade, a Blackjack Model 1-7 (Randall knockoff), is under my truck seat or in my daypack.

Here is a situation which has always nagged me. I am totally dismayed that I cannot legally carry or apply to carry, any significantly bladed knife on my person yet I can apply for a license and carry a handgun.
A knife is far less likely to drop an innocent bystander somewhere way down the block. If I were to use a blade in self defense it is likely I am in imminent danger. If I am using a blade for defense this perp is in my personal space and apparently intends harm.
I understand knife wounds can be icky, but so are large chunks of flesh removed from bullet exit wounds. What is there behind this abhorrence of knives? I am not asking to carry a broadsword or anything outrageous. I just wish to have the choice to APPLY for and carry a reasonable bladed sidearm of my choice legally.
Why would a legal CC handgun be the preferred so overwhelmingly over a blade as a remedy of self defense? Why is there such a predjudice toward knives?
