So today I got an opportunity to put my new Large Sebenza 21 sharpended at 36 degrees inclusive (S35VN 59-60 RC) through the ringer, as with my profession a EDC task I ask of most my knives are to only cut the sheathing off of some romex ( not to say it's a super easy task but it doesn't really demand much from a well sharpened edge).

Today's project was to replace the service riser (to Florida Power and Light) along we all 4 meter cans that fed the building, along with (2) disconnects for sub panels (150A and 200A).

This entails me to cut various insulations of off some 1/0-3/0 cu (fairly big wire, nothing crazy big like 300-500kcmil, but decently sized.)
When I came home I quickly tested edge retention with some notebook paper as I don't own a phone book because I'm not 83, the knife push cut the notebook paper easily, not flawlessly but I didn't have to help it at all.

All in all I feel like the Sebenza held up well in what I would deem as a heavier EDC role given my profession.

I would love to hear similar stories from the BF community expressing how your knife might have impressed you in the EDC task you might have been given at hand, how did it handle? Do you wish something was different about the knife? Or did you simply carry the WRONG knife for the task and you were cursing yourself for not carrying something that could have made the task 10 times easier, knowing it's sitting in your nice pelican case with your other knives!

Do you wish something was different about the knife?

What would I change ?
something that could have made the task 10 times easier
Hhhhmmmmmmm . . . . guess I will grind away over half the blade thickness from 5mm to . . . oh I don’t know . . . 2.2mm.
THERE !

That’s better. Much better, much, much better.

While we are at it may as well toss that sheath that has glass fibers in it that dulls the blade.
aaaaaahhhhh this is a good useful sheath; even clips to stuff . . . goes inside a boot or pocket.

OKYDOKE
Thas the ticket.

Any way cutting up rubber coated cloth . . . trimming hard rubber blocks . . . so far so good . . . trash day . . . cutting up huge double wall boxes to fit into the dumpster and more rubber products pretty dirty stuff . . . one last box . . . blazing along and slam on the brakes HERE COMES A BIG ‘O STAPLE . . . LOOOOOOK OUT !

Dang I hit it.
Inspect the blade edge . . . . wow . . . nothing.
Inspect the staple . . . cool . . . notch cut into the staple.

Happy Dog !
Love me some Cold Steel 3V !

Sweet man glad to hear your enjoying your blade. Similar incident like your staple that happened today was sometimes the angle of attack when cutting the insulation off the wire may be too steep and I chip the copper, luckily copper is a super soft metal and doesn't roll an edge !

Nice looking work! Last time I used my Spyderco Techno to strip some wire it cost me four stitches haha. I'll stick with my spyderedge salts or actual wire strippers!

Thanks!
Haha wire strippers won't cut this size sadly, biggest I've seen is a pair go up to number 8 stranded I believe. But there is no reason for it. After 10, I start to pull out my edc knife.

I guess you all know Mora makes a very short bladed, tough little fixed blade with sheath just for this sort of work. I even have one in my "saved for later" shopping cart list.

Yah . . .more fun to just use a really nice / more enjoyable EDC like yours.

I like a nice fixed blade don't get me wrong, I have a G3 in M390 and damn that thing is sweet!

Here is my folder version of the Mora short blade electrician's knife.
Made from an Opinel #12. This has a big fat handle and a pretty stout blade. A real work knife.
Or as The Chef said when I proudly showed it to her : "Congratulations you've made a box knife".
She sure knows how to cut through the BS doesn't she ?

I have 2 of the Mora electrician knives. I would recommend them for terminating and stripping wire, they work very well.
