knife coating question

Ive seen many patinas on here with vinegar but not much else. .. anyone think of doing a gun style coating such as bluing or parkerization (or many others)? I imagine either would work and could look really nice... not so sure on durability though

I was thinking about doing "Plumb Brown" to my BK15 along with some wooden grips.
Some guys have cold blued their blades, although not real safe for food work.

I thought about bluing some knives but I couldn't find anyone locally who does it anymore. Apparently bluing is so regulated now that most gunsmiths refuse to do it any more.

I wonder if parkerization is food safe. ..I sure know it looks good on the old 1911

Its not really the process it is the disposal of the old salts. Very HIGH lead content so its regulated and costly to dispose of. fortunately there is a guy here that does bluing, so I don't have to mess with al that mess.
